Another thread has made me absolutely need to solicit opinions on the appeal of the eyeball and the sphere. What in the heck is the magnetic attraction?! I've never used either in a web design myself but I can guarandoggonetee you that I've doodled millions. I have a friend that draws and I also guarantee that 90% of his drawings begin with an eyeball.

Please weigh in on all matters eyeball/sphere related right here. Inquiring minds wanna know. Oh yeah, ghoulish/fantasy monsters and mythtical creatures as a sidebar too...

Eyeballs and spheres? I don't think I've seen that thread, unless your referring to Allgoods website. I know I don't have a general attraction with eyes in particular. I can't say that I've EVER used an eye in any design I've done, web related or not. Spheres are a shape. Sure, I've used them. I've also used squares, triangles, etc. I dunno, I wasnt aware that was anything going on with either ... inform me please. Post a link to the thread in question ...

I was beginning to wonder the same thong JK. I just hadn't put it into words yet.

We have had three or four threads here in the last couple of months about drawing eye balls and it seems that anyone who puts up a tutorial or tips site has a tip on how to draw a sphere.

Maybe we are attracted to drawing eyeballs in the same way we seem to look at some's eyes first when we meet them.

I`ve noticed the fascination. too ( raises hand guiltily ) I think that eyes ( being spheres ) are popular because they are a basic archetype, lots of connections to quaint phrases ( mirror to the soul, can`t lies to me with your eyes, big brother is watching..etc. ) and they show depth on a two dimentional surface. It`s a goal of every artist that works in 2D mediums. besides, they`re fun and I see them everywhere i look anyway, don`t you ?

Well I don't know about the rest of you, but in the eyeball threads, I created it because it was fun and everyone else was doing it. Its not like I lie awake at night thinking how I can make a better eyeball, its just everyone else was creating them so I created one. If everyone was creating ears I probably would have too. Hell if all if you were jumping off bridges, Id be the next one ...

What would Freud say about this fascination with balls?

petskull, I can't tell if you're serious or not, heheh.
Paraphrased and edited Freud, I think. When speaking about symbology in dreams he said "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar"
