...and I have no clue. Please help all you smart guys!
I'm having big troubles with my new computer and have no idea what it could be.
I have this hardware:

Motherboard: ASUS A7V
Processor: AMD 1.1G
Memory: 256 PC133
Hard Drive: Maxtor 20G 7200 rpm
Case: ATX 300W
CD-ROM: 52x Creative
Sound Card: SB PCI 128
Video Card: ASUS V7100mx 32mb TV

since about 10 days. Everything is kind of fine untill the problem occurs.
Two or three times (sometimes even more frequently) a day my win2000 stops responding. Not that eveything is dead but I cannot move my mouse or use the keyboard although the NumLock key functons. I was even able to listen to the mp3 files when it happens.
I installed service pack 1, two hotfixes, installed all drivers that came with my hardware but still the same problem remains.
Could anybody give me a clue. Somebody else had the same experiance?

Thanks
Sash

does this happen only while running ie or outlook express? i used to have an asus board too (the chipset on my board has issues with agp vid cars). it ran pretty solid while using a pci video card, but once i put in an agp one, it started locking up at random tiles while using either ie or outlook. i, too, tried the packs and fixes. only thing that fixed it was changing back to the pci card.

my boyfriend is a hardware geek and wants to know more about your memory (1 stick or 2? generic or brand name?)

Honestly I don't know if it is generic or brand but I believe that is is just generic. And I added 128MB recently (forgot to mention in above) so that I have one 256MB and one 128MB.
Anyways I'm back to WinNT (just installed it). I hope it'll be better now.
Thanks

So far so good, NT works fine. I'll wait for the next WIN2000 service pack before I install it again.

Wow, that's an ancient history chipset, La. No wonder that AGP graphic card didn't work, but anyway that's not ASUS' fault...

Ok it happened again even with windows NT. For some reason it happens always on this page for example
I also think now that it is a graphic card issue.

Sash, what version of detonator drivers are you using? The most stable version for Win2K/NT is 6.49

Ok I'm hardware dummy honestly Max, I think I just installed ASUS Display Driver that I got with my hardware. Not sure about that detonator driver. Where can I check it? Or I'll just dowload that version and install it right?

No twItch^ noooo,....

It was the graphic card problem. It could be that it doesn't get along with my CPU and MB.
I exchanged it for ATI Rage128 VR 32MB with my brother. WinNT hasn't crashed yet (even on the page above where it always stopped responding).
On my brothers computer ASUS V7100mx 32mb TV works fine.
Thanks everybody for your help .

Sash, you can get the latest detonator drivers from the following web site: http://www.3dchipset.com/ . On the specified web site you can also find 7.x version(s), but in my case that version didn't work correctly with Win2K...

BTW Ne znam da li znas, ali postoji jedan odlican domaci (Srpski) web sajt koji se bavi hardware-om. Njegova adresa je http://www.benchmark.co.yu/ - obavezno pogledaj!
