I cannot remember that we had this question lately.
I personally use it less then before.
Reason:
1. Non standard
2. Kills older computers (or at least looks ugly on them)

What do you think?

When someone mention Flash, the first thing that comes on my mind is server generated dynamic & attractive content (Flash generated from PHP). Other than that, I don't see real use of Flash anywhere else...

1 - yes it is. something absurd like 95% of users have flash installed. no problem there.

2 - so? most of my sites kill older computers.

as for further commentary, i offer this: flash is a way for a designer to maintain the same exact look and feel on every single machine that can display it. all fonts will be the same size, all layouts will be in the correct place.

so, i've used it for that.

i hate intros--they don't follow what flash should be for. so really, i don't think there are many uses for flash, and i think it's over-utilized...but, it's still a useful tool.

Funny you should ask, I'm in the middle of a flash project.

I started using Flash a while back, liked it but it didn't have the necessary penetration into the browsers to make it viable for sites.

Now it is, like twitch said 95% of users do not need to install anything plug-in to view flash content (though I'm assuming thats for Flash 4 I know you do need to upgrade to flash 5)

I don't use it that much and I still probably wouldn't use it for my main site design. It's not a great way to maintain content. (though it's not as bad as it used to be). but it can be a great tool to have availible. For example the site I work on is for a TV channel its a lot of content and is of course HTML based. But we want a ticker that mimics the one we use on TV. I'm using flash for this using the same content feed as the TV uses . It's working out really well.

I don't mind flash and I'm sure it will be more useful as the internet moves more to broadband access. Personally, I've invested so much time into dHtml, it's hard to start over again. One of these days I'll start designing for flash or its successor but so far the need really isn't there for me. I'm hoping one of my partners will choose to carry that torch and trail blaze before me.
