Preserved Topic: video cards (Page 1 of 1)

I'm building a new computer and I wanted to know if you guys knew the best dual monitor video card to get. I'm pretty sure I'll get the matrox g450. It seems to have the best dual monitor support and 2d and high resolutions. I know the 3d isn't up to par but I'm sure I can live w/ it. Also can I use a pci 3d accelerator along w/ the g450 to help pick up w/ the 3d slack?

sure, just get a pass through 3d card.

In fact, I have an older system with a Monster 3D II (based on the Voodoo 2 chip) that is pretty decent. You might want to get a voodoo 3 or higher though.

Yep, mikey milker runs a dual monitor set up and swears by the Matrox.

I ran a three-head setup at work using $30 S3 cards under Windoze 98's multihead feature. The cards sucked (I wasn't doing graphics, just writing mad code) but having multi head dispays R0X0RZ!!111

Once you try it, you won't be goin back, my friend...

I had a 12 meg monster II on my system but I took it off and put it in my girlfriend's system. I may put it back in. The only thing about the voodoo cards is that they are really gonna be supported in new games. hmmmm.... I think I probably won't worry about the 3d and just be happy w/ the matrox. It couldn't possibly be that bad. I'm not use to using a pimped out video card anyway.

I meant to say that the voodoo cards AREN'T going to be supported in the new games.

I have it and it kicks ass for graphic design....it's so so on gaming!

That's a nice card boudga, but for a thousand bucks it better have an onboard toaster and drink maker included.

I wouldn't make too big of a deal on the dual-monitor thingy.
Windows 98 supports multiple video cards so if you are building a new computer just make sure you have a free PCI slot and you should be all good.

Personally I have an Nvidia card for gaming and a cheap Trio64V+ for my secondary monitor.

I guess if you are doing a lot of high-end graphics work where you want the best res on both screens then this would be a selling factor but hey there are other options.
