Hello,

I'm having a real weird problem while running Windows ME.
Actually i have installed 256MB of RAM and when I run three small applications and I check system resource i see that i only have %26 percent or less free.
I do CTRL-ALT-DEL and see that there is a reasonable amount of tasks that shouldn't lessen the resource that low!
I run more stuff on Windows 98SE and all fine...

any clues?

thanks!

Get Windows 2000/XP instead and you won't have any problems with resources...

Go to Start>RUN and type is msconfig From there click on Startup tab and check off the programs you want to disable at startup. Your recources will go high...

Sometimes those stats are not trustable, if you don't feel your computer running slower than before, just leave it.

im on a brand new dell inspiron 8000 laptop with 128mb ram running WinME

I have removed every TSR program and task in msconfig other than loadpowerprofile, systray. After about 30 minutes of opening and closing IE and frontpage my computer starts to crawl like a 5 month old baby. I take a look at resources and there is only 4 or 7% free. i close every program open, close any task running on taskbar and contol, alt delete and close all TSR's and still im left with less than 10%. Reboot and im fine for another hour or so.

bottom line = WinMe must have a huge memory leak. this is the 4th time i have heard from someone else with memory problems such as lallous and me.

Xp here i come!

Yes Brad:
*Huge Memory Leak*

Actually it really sucks after buying 256MB of RAM and you find out that it doesn't help!

Hope that XP is better and most important of all: Stable

Windows XP will be much better, because it is based on NT kernel... And in the NT, the term "resources" doesn't even exist!

Actually, it might not be ME at all. Some programs have defininite memory leaks and you should check out all your TSR's before you decide it's the OS.

Im with you Ducati.........i have 7 Macsa and 2 PC'S........those PCs seem to have more function in the software system but the bloat ware you have to have attatched to run the beast.....ouch.........the Mac is slim and stable.........the PC has you walking around the yard with a ton of useless attatchware.............

My PC sits there untill i need windows to open .doc files....or there is a PC only web site..........other then that the Mac runs perfectly...............and most the time/

I have winMe on 800 hp pavilion and its not a bad system but the bugs.......ouch..........I have one bug that causes any type of text cut and paste it doubles the text when you paste it anywheres.............and the ram hog is always a-foot
