Yep, thats right, June 19th I'll be teachin Frontpage. ha ha ha

You think they'd be mad at me if I started class....

"Hello and welcome to Beginning Frontpage. Now, please set your training manuals on fire and I'll teach you how to do it right."

LOL

I'm also going to be teaching GoLive here in a few weeks, along with Excel, Word, and Powerpoint! Got copies of them all installed on the puter and gettin ready to rip through em.

Wish me luck!

threep stands up to applaud, and comments:
"i love the sound of enthusiasm! great to hear that you are enjoying things there... no doubt you're set to learn a heck of a lot - you always have to know more than 'just enough to get by' when you're teaching the program!
Now, three simple steps on how to face an impossible question:
1) say 'very good question. let me have a play around on my computer tonight, and ill tell/email you with an answer tomorrow.
2) log on to the asylum...
3) give them the answer!
just think of the brains collective you will be able to impress them with! "
forgetting the most important thing, he adds:
"oh, and don't forget to mess with your students too. develop a relationship full of trust, then abuse it.
example: 'you will find our latest version of frontpage is voice activated! just tell the computer what type of page you want, and if you ask it nice enough, it will make it for you! I've found that it works best if you phrase your requests in iambic pentameter.' "

GOOD LUCK man! I hope you love it.

I'm finding out that Frontpage is an extremely powerful tool for building an intranet for a corporation that has NT servers and a copy of Office on every machine. It's incredible. Never thought I'd say such a thing. Teaching a bunch of newbies how to build a databse driven intranet? OK, burn it.

I know you krets, you`ll teach them Frontpage, AND how to do it right. Or take the class again.

If they had just killed Gilligan, they`d have been off the island in a week.

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

Or just delete the folder. I'm sure that would go over well.

Hmm, it seems to me that there is only one necessary step after this one!

"Very good! Your manuals are all on fire now. Now please get out the CD that Frontpage came on and let's repeat the process."

Yep. Would be a good introduction.
I hate FrontPage because it is compatible only to itself and other Microsoft Products. If you try using FP together with products (servers, editors) from other companies, you can get into big trouble. I know...

But I think the program itself is not worse than Dreamweaver or GoLive. I use GoLive on my Mac and FP on my PC. I tried Dreamweaver but found it unpracticable to handle. They are all editors that have more or less the same features - it's only this Microsoft specific 'we can do more, so we do it and if you use it you won't be able to use anything else again' that brings you into trouble. Use FP without those annoying server extensions and you will have less trouble - and less features. Hm, did I say that before? Well, what I just wanted to say is: It all depends on what you want. Choose the program that fits best with your needs. And IMHO the FP pro/contra discussion is usually a 'I hate MS/I love MS' discussion - at least in my company.

Did I say I hate FrontPage, yet? No? Well I do. But we use it because it turned out that it is the best tool for those people that are condemned to build pages without knowing HTML and without time and/or interest to learn it.

I think lesson #2 should be on what great frisbies/wepons the Frontpage disks make. Might even be worth a field trip to the park for demonstrations.

Well, krets, it looks like you're starting with the right frame of mind there.

If you can, change the class to "Notepad: More powerful than Frontpage"

Krets - You should pull the "Dead Poet's Society" bit... have a student read some opening passage from the book about how great FrontPage is, then have them all tear it out, throw it away and stand on top of their desks.

he he he

Actually, my Frontpage experience got put on the back burner for a while. Instead, I am going to teach a 5 day class of Macromedia web tools.

3 days of Dreamweaver, 1 of Flash, and 1 of Fireworks.

Much better. (Well, maybe not much but better....)

Actually, the Flash thing would be pretty cool.

But I wouldn't say Notepad: Better than FrontPage. I'd say Max's HTML Beauty++ ME: WAY better than FrontPage! Let's help a brother out!
