So it's a video game system? Does it hook up to the computer or TV? If it hooks up to the computer would it be supported for a mac?

It hooks to your TV.

Its going to compete with Sony PS, etc.

Alright, thanks for the information. Lately at my local mall, I've seen a lot of ads for it, and I was getting curious.

I suppose that theoretically, the point of advertising it is so that you'd know what it is, and then could get one, since no one would get something that random if it cost as much as it will (over $100 US)... so you didn't know what it was, hence bad advertising.

so that was a bit overdone.... deal with it

i saw it at CES, its not a big difference from a PC, but the games they are going to make are going to have graphics like a computer, and the gamplay of consoles! which is DOPe!

I was thinking the same thing.

Looks to be pretty good. Familiar companies such as Konami, Midway, and Eidos seem to involved. There seems to be a lot of newer companies programing for this thing also. Is microsoft expected to create the bulk of the games? I think Gates should have decided to try this a few years earlier, and advertised better. This might help out MS's stock a bit though. How do some of you think it will do?

Yeah, I'm still a little curious about it. There was this huge hype over the PS2 and just before it's release MS dumped the xbox marketing engine in a hope people would hold on to their wallets. Well, it's been a while and there still seems to be nothing but hype and more hype.

Although, from what I've heard there have been a lot of developers that have 'broken' exclusive development contracts with sony so they can develop games for the xbox. Aparently the PS2 is quite hard to program for and the xbox is meant to be a game programmers dream.... blah blah using the latest nvidia gpu blah blah blah...

Although I havent read anything about it recently. Are they still planning on making the xbox so it can be upgraded?? Somuse more like a games specific PC with limited upgrade-a-bility. An ability that you'd have to got back to MS to get that is. There has also been a lot of debate on various forums as to weather systems like the xbox will signal the end to PC gaming because it will be harder to copy these kind of games ect ect ect ect....

But we all now that's a load of crap. Anything can be copied after a matter of time. Why, I even have what I think is a warez version of a Sega MageDrive game ?? The cartridge has columns printed on it, looks all legal and stuff but you load it up and it has 12 different full games on it ?? Eh, don't ask me it was just one of the games that came with it (I got it second hand).

Anyhow, just my 2 c

I saw both the X-Box and Nintendo GameCUbe at this year's E3 in Los ANgeles... and I have to say that the GameCube absolutely stole the show for me, and most everyone I was with. The games just looked so much more FUN to play, and almost as impressive from a strict graphics standpoint. Plus, the GameCUbe will be $199 at release, with the XBox weighing in at between $299 and $329 depending on the game packaging it comes with. Plus, I can plug my GameBoy Advance into my GameCube, and not into an XBox XBox was just a glorified PC in my eyes, and I already have two of those .

Man, get real. I can't wait for the xbox. A game console with a harddrive. That kicks ass. The problem with the current game consoles is the speed with the cd-rom. With a harddrive, save game to harddrive, and wheeee! And then the possibility to manipulate...and, of course, anti-aliasing...slobber, drool. Just hope that square 'springs' over.

Theres no doubt that there is a lot of power built into an Xbox.. I could list features all day long that make it technically superior to other consoles. The problem is that it's the size of a large truck (Many Japanese consumers won't buy it specifically because of it's size and style, which could kill the console), it's expensive, the controller is super uncomfortable (It truly is, wait till you feel it ), and most importantly the games just didnt look that FUN. Thats the kicker for me... I just didn't want to PLAY any of the games I saw at E3 other than basically Oddworld, whereas I wanted to play virtually every GameCube game I saw besides Pikmin. If I want a glorified PC game I'll buy my home machine a Geforce 3 and be done with it. Thats my opinion.

You are all forgetting one thing. X-Box is very PC like, but it's cheaper than PC. So, that would be very strong reason why some people (who don't own PC yet, or own a crappy one) would buy it (i.e. they would get game entertainment, plus some funky "home" targeted features, like DVD).
