I?ve inherited something of a mess? perhaps even a nitemare.

A friend with an older computer running Win95 has just installed a 20gig hard drive. The shop partitioned it out 10 times. 2 gig per partition. I warned him that would happen because of his older system. No big deal and actually a benefit ?because??. He uses the computer for his business?.but? allows his kids to use it for ?play.? A nitemare?believe me!!!

So I want to install Win95 on another partition let the kids use that? the rest is for his business. So question is:
What happens on ?Startup?? How do I ?force? the kids to use only their o/s and allow him to access his? Passwords? I know 2 o/s?s will work but I?ve never ?seen? what you?re actually presented with on screen when you fire up the ?puter.

Next question: Will there be any problems with the @home/ cable connection to the Internet? Accessible from ?both??

No options on upgrading from win95. No options on a new computer. I?ve tried!

Thnx ppl.

Frustrated nj

Hmmm, I'm not really sure that you can have two Win9x installed on the same computer (without using some third-party boot manager).

Also, there's no fullproof way of protecting one installation, since you can always access all partitions from both installations.

Your cable connection should work fine.

Mr. Max is correct. You could use a third part product that would allow you to choose which OS to boot, but that's not usually worth it.

Something like a dual booting Win 9x/Win 2000 solution would have a boot menu, and security options could be set so that the kids couldn't see or log into the Windows 2000 partition.

I don't know, twitch. I think kids have enough reasons for gouging their parents eyes out as it is.

I've played multi OS for like a month, until I finally got my winME, win2k and linux running smoothly, thank god, there is such a thing as partition magic!!!!! http://www.partitionmagic.com/
it has a build-in boot manager too, so you can choose to boot whatever you like !!!!!

ohh, if you choose to use partitionmagic, and have any further questions, please don't hasitate come back to us

Galaxal, you could do that without PartitionMagic, because W2K and Linux already come with very good boot managers...

the problem was winME Upgrade from win98!! win9x has to be the first one to be installed according to my memory, then win2k, then linux, because linux then will add both ME and win2k to the bootloader menu, to be honest with you, I don't think i have the skill to add boot sectors to GREG (linux loader I use) by hand. It was alot of trouble at first to me, because win2k has it own boot loader and linux had its own too, I did alot of examinations to get them work right (when I said right, I mean to make it work to the way I feel it should be).

yo, if you guys know how to add boot sectors to boot.ini of win2ks and greg's conf file, please share the wealth, heheh.
