my dhcp client used to get 192.168.0.2, my host is a win2k pro, now it's assigning my client 192.168.0.31 every time it turns on, how do I configurated this? I would also like to know why is it behaving like this, if you know, thanx.

you can set the ip fixed.
(but that wouldnt be the sense of a dhcp anymore )

That's hard to say - how many other machines are on the same network? It could be that the lease ran out, and another machine grabbed that address. DHCP is just that - DYNAMIC. The fact that you have a valid address (then and now) means that it's working fine.

Yeah this is what DHCP servers are supposed to do.
Is this for a cable modem or DSL? or are you actually running the server?

If this is via an ISP then you can cause trouble by assigning yourself static since if you are getting a new IP then your old one may be assigned to someone else, which means that if he boots and gets the IP first you won't be able to get on line and vice versa.

I used to have DSL, after my isp bankrupted, I never changed any thing (that's probably why), and I have only 2 machines, 1 server and 1 client, server is win2k, client is winME.

Well, 192.168.x.x is a private network range. If everything is working fine, I wouldn't worry about it. This address is something your server is giving out (not your ISP).
