ok I had a thought that I wanted to ask everyone. I just had my system tweaked and fixed at the local "PERSONAL TOUCH" comuter repair service and they have you basic pc stuffs...

It seems to me that every person that works in a place like that have absolutely no people skills? And they all act like they are gods gift to the computer community? I had to really restrain from smackin' some idiot in the head for a stupid comment he made about my system. (one of those... oh its only a P3 650??? what you need is.....)

Am I the only one that senses this? I dunno... Ever take a trip to yer local INcomp USA?
Perfect example. Kills me though that the general population that dont really know anything about computers really rely on these morons to consult and advise on what they need... etc.

Now dont get me wrong... hear me out... I have several friends of mine that work in a few of these places and I maybe was harsh by saying ALL but lets just say.. "most of em.."

thoughts?

Yeah, you're right....I experienced such cases myself...

I hate it when it comes to buy / install new hardware (like motherboards, cpus,...)...I hate to deal with PC Technicians...

i think the problem lies in that most people who know a lot about computers have invested most of their time in relating and learning about data and machines. they have not invested their time into personal relationships or other people. this is not everyone, just generalizing here. not to mention the radiation that comes from computer screens! whew! <grin> that's gotta do something to people who spend large amounts of time in front of 'em.

Naw, you were right with all of them

Just kidding, although most of them do seem to suffer from a lack of people skills. Maybe it's just that there used to talking on computers about computers and they haven't associated with a human outside of work in years. It also probably doesn't help when there not on the computer there watching StarTrek reruns. After only a few hours of watching them, you're bound to lose some of your people skills.

Well, be thankful you got people who know what they're doing. From my experience, most of the people who work at these places act like jackasses and they don't have a clue about most comp tech problems. If you can find a place with helpful and intelligent staff, you've found the promised land my friend.

Besides, you can always ask the Asylumites your tech problems if you need.

I was looking as gfx tablets in a Harvey Norman Electrical & Computer goods store one day when I over headr this conversation:

Customer:
Hi, I'm looking for a new computer. I was thinking about gettin an AMD cause I've heard their reall good, and with lots or RAM about 120 or so and about 10 hard disks (He obviously didn't know much about computers).....

Sales Person:
Oh, no, you don't need an AMD (Havey Norman doesn't sell AMD's) there much slower then Intel Pentium 4's and they cost more too. And having an Pentuim 4 will also let you download data through you modem faster...

Me to Sales Person)
IT WILL FUCKING WHAT!!!!!!...

~sales person turns red~

Me To Customer)
This guy doen't know shit about computers, He's just trying to milk you for as much as money as possible. I strongly recommend you take your business elsewhere.

~I then proceded to leave the store, the customer followed shortly after when he looked at the sales person and they said nothing to defend themself~

When I got home I wrote a very nice email to the Brisbane manager of HN computers explaining what I had witnessed and my actions for doing so. I recieved a reply saying that the situation will be delt with... blah blah blah..

Anyway, thats my story of Computer Store people.....

I guess we just gotta deal with them huh.... Pretty sad though. I really like to deal with people especially when Im gonna shell out some duckets for something I really like.

Maybe you guys can help.... I wanted to get a real good scanner and I've already forgot the model number to the one I was lookin at. It ran about 499.00 I dont want to use a parallel port model. For bad experience reasons. Any recomendations? I will use it mostly for print.
