The ad is really annoying. I see it at least 10x (like the name) a day and it always comes from nowhere.
Terrible!
Done.
Sorry.

I hear ya, Sash. What is up with that pop-up? But I must admit that I am curious -- how much are they paying for this annoyance?

I read an article on that recently. I think it was on techtv.com. I guess their profits have soared since they started that campaign. Some fairly high traffic sites are popping that ad.

In most cases "adware" applications get money when someone clicks on ad banner. But, eve if you click on it, the same banner will probably appear again...

as well as on hotmail.

With pop-up adds there is still CPM payment methods, where they pay a certain rate for each 1000 impressions. There is also pay per performance, where you get paid for each sale, or lead.

PPC is out the window, not many programs follow that, so I am guessing that it is a CPM program where they pay upwards of 1.00 CPM, who knows, I don't think such big sites would be jumping on it, were it not a really profitable venture.

That ad is a bit of a web phenomenon.

x10.com was the 5th most viewed site on the web last month.

And yes it's annoying as hell since I don't know where it came from. However. (I thought I sent this out last week there is a way to prevent them)
http://www.x10.com/home/optout.cgi?DAY=30&PAGE=http://www.x10.com/x10ads1.htm

That link is supposed to set a cookie to kill the ads for 30 days

Notice the DAY=30 part? I changed that to 3000 just to see what would happen.

cheers

The 3000 didn't work?

It works for me, the pain in the ass is that the ads still appear and then close
