Well, I've made it back from visiting the family. I also got to visit the world's largest Superman statue, a life-size replica of the Parthenon, Boomland (a GIANT fireworks store) and the world's largest baseball bat at the Louisville Slugger Museum, as well as almost being taken into custody at Fort Knox.

Unfortunately, I returned to find out that the client I was going to live off of for the next couple of months decided not to create a Web site after all (after dicking me around for the last few weeks). So, now I'm broke and badly in need of a job.

Anyone in the D/FW area who can help out? Web design, travel or TV/video production -- I'm your man!

Haven't made my way to the biggest orange just yet. Yet.

By the way, what ever happened to that really spicy "is it art" thread that was here when I left?

welcome back Wes and glad to hear you're broke like the rest of us. Quit buying electronic toys, there's a start on the road to recovery.

That thread was locked down, it got long and pissy - don't tell me it's missing? Do a search on "French curve" or somethin like dat.

I was enjoying that same thread also, I think one of the brownshirts archived or removed the 'what is art' thread, I may of course be mistaken. Sorry to hear that about your client, I have had a few flake and leave me high and dry too, its a aggrivating kind of helplessness.

As far as I know that thread is still around.

Nah, actually, I just checked and that thread is gone. Not how I would have handled it, but... it's handled. Hrmph, I *do* resent the reference to the "brown shirts", do you even know the history of this group? By the old USENET definitions for when a thread is officially "dead", one of the primary requirements is the first reference to Nazis and/or Hitler.

You: "You! You just killed 6 million Jews!"
Me: "Hmm, hard to top that, you win, rational discussion over."

Just for the record, I gotta point out that without the Mad Scientists in this place, the Asylum would *not* exist, certainly not as we know it. It was easier when we only had a couple hundred people here, I was able to stay on top of things myself - now we're well over 1200 and I can't do it alone. I didn't ask my friends to help me run this thng because I thought they were Nazis, these are my *friends*, and I aked for their help because I trust their judgement. The bottom line? I'd rather lose a hundred other folks who resent the handling of this situation than to lose my Mad Scientists. My sandbox, my rules. I stand by the actions of my "brown shirts".

I do apologize for the brownshirt comment in the context you took it, (as leader of the brownshirts right?) it was not meant that way. It was meant to show my disgust at the way some people were lashing out against Doc Cyber, it seemed inappropriate at the time and to have the thread cut short just smacked of totaltarian censorship, hence the brownshirt comment.

As to the question, Do I know the history of "this" group? Yes I do, and quite well. I registered on 03-30-2000 as Moai and read nearly daily but was unable to post due to a hand/wrist injury until april when I added a Z to my nic and started posting. I go slow at first as my sarcasm comes off as more than slightly abrasive on the web but I had the same problems when I posted at DBM and Topaz's boards.

Sorry to offend, wont happen again.

I don't know which particular one you are talking about that got deleted but I just found four of them. Yes, thats right, four threads with the same discussion. I think that was the point. Everyone just got really tired of rehashing the same old crap. I know that a couple of us (myself included) were even starting to get trash thrown our way via our personal email addresses. Thats just not necessary. Here are the old threads, maybe a couple others got deleted. I know there are 3 or 4 more in the Philosophy section.

Now, back on topic. Sorry to hear it Wes. I remember Boudga lived in that area. I don't know if he ever had any luck finding a job, I think he was in about the same situation as you the last time he was around.

Good luck with your search man.

Oh yes, the subject! (Thank Krets!) Hmm, job-finding in this time is hard, I don't know how it is in DS/FW, but sweden is CLOSED for the summer, parking is easy to find, and appointments are impossible to get, (bless the 5 week mandatory vacation time, woo!) I'm actually sitting at home right now, relaxing, lazing about the house, playing diablo2 expansion set, no work to be done with everyone out of town. Wes, hang in there, get yourself some interviews with whomever you can, I'd recommend the phone book and some cold-calling as opposed to waiting for the right ad to appear, many people don't realize *what* they need, and you might be the answer to their prayers, who can tell? Good luck to you bro!

(moaiz, nothing personal, I just had to comment on this one sometime, your post gave me a good "jumping off" point. I just needed to let people know, I trust the MS's in the group, that's why they're there!)

((Oh yeah, congratulations, Wes!))

Well, there was no contract yet because there was no official deal. She had been expressing interest for quite some time and was giving me the impression that she was ready for the go-ahead. But, at the last minute, she said never mind. Maybe she didn't deserve the "dicking around" comment; it just feels like that since I was counting on that job.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind taking a long break from Web development and getting back into entertainment. I'd love to get some TV broadcast experience -- the only problem is having to do some serious stretching on my resume to sound worthy of any relevant position.

I'd love to work for TechTV, bit. The only thing is, I just moved from California a few months ago and I'm not sure I'm ready to move back. Well, maybe if I got to work closely with Jessica Corbin...

Wakkos -- sure, let me know. I'm not sure what a productor is, either, but I could give it a shot!

Fig -- I'm working on something right now that I plan to let everyone see when it's complete. I don't wanna jinx it, but I'll say that it's basically a proposal video for a travel show concept I'm developing.

Oh hey bitdamaged - TechTV? Where Chris Pirillo works now? The guy from lockergnome.com? Oh hey cool could you get me an autograph? :P

Wes - besta luck m'man. Whatever you do, don't leave the states for the middle east. Did a job here and got paid a quarter of what we had agreed on - didn't even cover my expenses. Couldn't take them to court 'coz I couldn't afford a lawyer, and they were local (read: influential) and i was an expat (read: viable for exploitation). Sorry if i sound bitter - maybe thats coz - well i am.

timothymcnulty - if ya read this. ure here too - be careful, yeah? i dunno if you realised it but during the Death Penalty thread...the ISP blocked the asylum...

on the upside - i got a large client base for basically a two bit website i spent two days on, and they dont know it but i still have access to all their files - ah revenge will be sweet :P

Well, hyperbole, if I ever make it back to my grandparents' place again soon, I'll be sure to let you know. You probably could have told me where that dinosaur was that I was looking for instead of walking around like an idiot for almost an hour. (Turns out, it was behind the science place.)
