Okie. I have a question concerning my connection here at college. I believe it's a T1, although it might be T3, connection but my computer crawls. I download slower then actual dialup. I understand that it's a shared network but shouldn't it be going a lot faster then this? I've been downloading ie6 for over an hour now and it still says 1 hour and 44 minutes. Is there any sort of configuration I can play around with to speed this up? What gives here?

If your school is too large it might slow it down, however I believe a slow down is only 10k a second which is still faster than dial up.

The problem may be routed in your TCP/IP settings. You should verify that you are connecting correctly, there should be some sort of online help desk available. Or simply stop down to the main CPU administration building.

Asking people in the hall is also great advise. Normally a upperclassman can help you out with your problems just as well if not better than the resident teks.

Well I took Mikey's advice and contacted the Res Net department. I asked what the problem was, and he explained that this isn't normal, but everyons experiencing it across the campus. I asked what they were doing about it and they said nothing. Then I told them in a polite manner to get there boyfriends cocks from outta there asses and do somethign about it. I had some more choice phrases, but you can only so soo much when being escourted out.

I know what you mean we have a couple pf T1's and a T3 here. 80% of the time the T3 is booming, but today it DOES appear to be slower than a Dial up
So if you are running on a T1 then I can imagine it's ass slow.

Most colleges supply fractional t-1's to the dorms and then cut the bandwidth because ofthe excessive napster/kazaa/whatever downloader usuage.

'Free service'?

Do any of you know how much Georgetown costs? My 'free service' costs more then what most of you people spend annually on your homes. After I'm finished with school, my 'free service' will be more then what most of you make it two years. So try thinking twice before you suggest that I'm being impolite about my 'free service'. Of course that was an exaggeration. I did ask very politely what they were doing about it and there answer was nothing. With all the money my parents are paying for me to attend this school, you think some of the things advertised would actually work. *Shrug* Apparently not.

Aside from the grammatical error (then and than have two different meanings)....Let's see, room and board at Georgetown is probably less than $10,000 anually. Multiply that by four years and you get $40,000 (the actual figure is probably closer to $35,000). So that would mean you are claiming that the average member of the asylum makes about $18,000 anually.
