There's a blood shortage in Washington DC. My aunt and cousin were going to be flying out of Burlington, VT to head home from visiting my mother in NY tomorrow, but now I don't know what they're doing. One of my best buds from college just started at the army (he was ROTC)... I wonder what he's doing now..

I know there's no real humor to find in this horrific tragedy, but your comment about all those groups condemning the attacks is pretty funny. Imagine these known terrorist groups acting like a bunch of 7 year old boys on the playground ... "Nope, I didn't do it ... he did it!!"

As a former Marine, I will be watching very closely what the US reaction will be. Will the military be called up and sent into action? Will we nail down with out a doubt who is responsible? Terrorist attacks are pretty hard to retaliate against ya know ...

I'd say they attack US embassies next.
Of course, they can't drop any planes inside the US anymore. Maybe some more carbombs.

On the news they are talking about people jumping off the roof of the World Trade Center to escape the flames... it must have been horrible. My mind tries to imagine what it would have been like, but I don't want to know...

I was there for the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing. I was stationed at the Marine recruiting office on the sixth floor. I was fortunate enough to have been home that morning, having had the morning off as compensation for some weekend work. I lost many friends and co-workers then. Tragic. No pictures or scenes on TV could possibly convey the true scope of disaster. I stood before the building's remnants and stared up at 9 stories of hell. Life-altering experience to say the least.

Armed with that experience, I try to grasp what has happened in New York. I just can't do it. It's impossible to imagine. Like I said, TV, internet, and newspaper can only show you so much. Whew ...

I do truly feel for all involved and I do mean ALL. The rescue workers will go without rest for days, even weeks, to come. I worked side-by-side with some of them in Oklahoma. I was exhausted and I only worked for a short time.

Send your thoughts and prayers. Donate blood. Donate any and every comfort/resuce item you can think of ... blankets, batteries, gloves, water, bibles, teddy bears ...

Yes, the terrorists will see our anger, but I think it is even more important to show how a country can come together, despite all of our differences, for a single cause. Let's get started now.

They have just said that they have the President in Louisiana and have him in a secure place off base there.

I woke up to my radio this morning. Instead of the normal idiotic chatter, I hear reports of "people fleeing in terror from the building, smoke everywhere...". Needless to say, I was instantly awake. I turned on CNN just in time to see the second Tower collapse.

The Towers would have started evacuating as soon as the first plane hit, so I'm assuming/hoping that the Second Tower was probably mostly empty by the time the second plane hit. (Of course, with an estimated 25,000 who normally work in each tower, casualties will be nauseatingly high.)

It's sickening to hear about people -celebrating- the attacks. You can't really blame the children; they probably don't even understand what's going on. They're just happy because the adults around them are happy.

My thoughts are with everyone who has a friend or loved one in New York or Washington.

one would hope so... but they did not know that the 2nd one would be hit so, or so i heard, that they did not start to evacuate it right away... but i am not sure about that.

CNN is estamating almost 50,000 people work there every day, and almost 150,000 are in the buldings all the time, ranging from workers, visiters and traders....

I heard these numbers only 5 mins ago off CNN....

how many can you really get out that fast?

two planes went down in Pennsilvania, I can't get anymore info from either of the airlines, untill they get the families notified....

All flights to New York are being diverted to Canada, "first time in history we ever did that"

I'm trying to get stuff together, and post an update: The Pentagon, which evidently has collapsed with a chasm 200 - 300 feet across, and fires on six stories, has order the USS JFK and George Washington into NYC. PLEASE GIVE BLOOD IF YOU LIVE IN THE NYC AREA. Over 200 firemen are reported missing, and reports of 50,000 dead in the WTC collapse are being banded about. Dick Cheney has assumed control of the White House, and is in the situation room there - GWB is not returning to the White House until things have calmed down - and has gone evidently to a Lousiana AFB. The [CDC] in Atlanta has largely evacuated but has activated their bioterrorism units. American Airlines flight 11, the first to crash into the WTC was going from BOS -> LAX. There are rumours of Akamai's founder being onboard. As into the ground, evidently, by the pilot, rather then fly into a building - but there are also rumours that it was shotdown by a F-16. braver person then I. United Flight 175 also crashed into the WTC, according to Boston.com, and orginiated from Boston - so the WTC was both Boston flights. A car bomb that was supposed to have gone off int front the State Department has been denied. In a statement, Taliban, of Afghanistan, has denied any involvement, and Yassar Arafat has denounced the attack. Remember: No one knows who did this yet, so don't make any assumptions - remember what people first thought about the OKC attack. In other news, the US - Mexico/Canada borders have been sealed, all air traffic has been grounded, nationwide federal buildings are being evacuated, NATO personeel in Brussells have been sent home, Israeli embasseies worldwide have been evaced, all US Disney parks shutdown, major parts of European cities, Britain in particular are being shutdown, stock trading is shutdown. There are 50 flights still in the air, with 2 international flights that have yet to respond. F16s form the US Air Force has been instructed to shoot down flights in a no fly zone over NYC - an AVI of the WTC plane or here. More as we know.

One thing to bear in mind is that Washington D.C. is shut down and there is no information coming from there. So there could be more happening that is unknown.

I don't know how much of that is true, but I do know that the U.S./Mexico border is NOT sealed. I live in San Diego, and have repeatedly heard that, while there is increased security at the border, it remains OPEN.

F1_error: As far as I can tell London isn't being evacuated at this time - they shut the Stock Exchange but I suspect that most of the stock exchanges have closed around the world (or at the least suspended trading). The BBC is expressing some concern that the UK may be the next place to come under attack but its 6 in the afternoon here now and so most people will be going home anyway. I have a friend at the BBC and she would contact me if something significant happened in this country. I doubt we are as important as we think we are (and at times like this I'm grateful).

There is a big hole IN the Pentagon where an airplane crashed into it. It is ONLY 5 stories tall (well, there is that *alleged* basement), 5 sides, 5 rings. A 300 foot hole can not swollow the worlds most massive office building.

Plane crashed by the helliport, on the Southwest side. Most reports are that it hit between the E and D rings (outermost ring is E).

Not sure if this was the wedge that is currently under renovation or not.

There are confirmed dead adults in the building. None of the children in the daycare center were harmed. All of the children are accounted for and safe.
