Hey I jsut got Microsoft Windows Xp Profesional from my friend that has some connections for his bussiness. The only problem is my laptop is only 32mb, and Xp needs 64mb just to run. I'm not sure my laptop can be upgraded to 128mn or not. I know it can be uped to 64mb at least. Anyways I checked it out and love it. Changed the settings to make it look like the old windows, but I love the "windows messenger" it is kinda like the concept of Outlook Express. It serves as "one" messenger that you can see and view all of your account names. I was talking to my ICQ, yahoo, AIM, and MSN friends at the same time on one messenger. Really saves space on the desktop. I also love the picture preview thingy in the folders. ME and the neato option of viewing everything in a thubnail, and XP can view everything in a in window slideshow, pretty sweet. I'm not sure what the diffrence is between Xp home edition and Xp pro is, but XP runs like a mother.

Dark, don't bother upgrading. Simply send the OS to me and we'll call it even.

ppssttt kids.... be quiet... Microsoft Police is watching...
But, anyways, comming back to the topic. I am running Home Edition and I love it. I don't know about that 32 meg stuff thought.. you might want to upgrade my friend.

Also there is a cool feature that I noticed. You can set any program that's installed to be win95, win98, win2k compalible. Pretty cool huh?

I didn't check out that messanger thoguht. I was going to uninstall it since I use AOL for all my online and work buddies but if it works with it I might take a look at it when I get home.

The other thing I like is boot time. So fast! And Photoshop, oh boy... that runs sooooooooo nice....

Isn't that awesome!? Photoshop runs like nobody's peanuts! And the internet has nver been faster! Maybe that's why Xp has it's own "Firewall" that's even better news for people! it is right up there with NIB and ZA. It is awesome having a firewall come with a OS!

I don't know.. maybe its me but I can seem to figure out how to make this messanger to work with my aol messanger. There is no option to combine those two. How did you managed to do that Dark?

About the memory issue....its pretty dog slow on 64 megs, I do not believe it will load on any system that dosent meet min sys req. On the upgrade I would check with your laptop manufacturer via-phone monkey support or go through your origional documentation, it should kick down some system spec's so you can be enlightened. The Manufacturer website will usually contain this info somewhere too...

XP also has a funky feature if you open multiple instances of the same thing, say...IE. It will eventually group them all under one item along your bottom toolbar with a selectable menu to save space, you can also close all instances of one grouped item AT ONCE, (I pictue those zeraw sites that throw up 1,000,000,000 popups...closed all at once. Neat feature...Try it, it usually starts doing it around 35'ish instances of the same thing that causes the 'feature' to kick in. I also really like the emulator for programs that have compatibility issues makes me more comfortable with the thought of switching to NTFS. I am jazzed about the .mcc modules too. Its jam packed with some very slick tools so far. I get an 'evaluation copy' through work that runs out after 90 days so I can load it and learn it, but of course then NOT crack it and keep using it because as we all know...that would be immoral and illegal.

i wouldn't even run win2k w/less than 128 mbs. XP looks very appealing but i think i'm gonna hold off til service pack comes out. i've read a lot of software/hardware compatibility issues and god forbid ATI make drivers that are stable
