I'm really going to have to insist that you guys stop misspelling Guinness. I believe that's a capital offense in some places. And if it isn't it should be.

And the rec room is the basement. That's slightly disappointing.

Anyway, I can't see how running electrical currents through Guinness could be all that good. Of course, running electrical currents through me while I'm downing a pint of Guinness might work. Hmmm....

As for your "friendly banter," although I'd like to believe that the US could go all the way, I'd say chances are that they won't win the Cup. Not that it couldn't happen, I just don't think it's likely. Then again, no one thought they would beat Portugal. And England going further than the US? Well, I guess we'll just have to see about that, won't we?

ShootingStar: Well, I'm glad you reminded me of that... I was just about to spoil the surprise!

Looking ahead, any predictions for France-Uruguay? I've got to admit, I would love to see France lose again...

3-1 France, eh? Hehe... didn't watch the game, but apparently they played to a 0-0 draw! Well aroma, since you're on such a roll, how about a friendly little wager on the England-Argentina match? No points, just winner. If England wins, I'll give you my meds for next week. But if Argentina wins, you give me yours. Deal?

Seriously, though, it looks like the French are in trouble. Henry was ejected from the match?! Well, I haven't studied the group standings, but it doesn't look good for France. Now who was it that was telling me in that first thread that I would see why France are the number one team? The way they're playing, they're not going to make it past group play! And I don't care how much talent you may have, if you don't play like the number one team, then you're not the number one team.

Not only are the French in trouble, but things look pretty bad for Germany...Camaroon played very well against the Saudis...and the Saudis can now start packin'...the first 'losers' of the WM...

Even though I expect the Germans to survive to the next round...it's going to be difficult...I really think it will all come down to whether or not Camaroon can score against Khan...he will either save the day, or the Germans can start packing, too.

Of course, Ireland has to win against Saudi Arabia...but I think they won't have too much trouble doing that...

Ain't the WM great?

Looking pretty bad for Germany? Are you sure? All they need is a draw against Cameroon; their current goal differential would guarantee that they would top out if three teams ended up with five points each--unless Ireland blows out Saudi like the Germans did. If they lose to Cameroon, then yeah, they're gone, but I honestly don't see that happening. I don't think they'll choke. I predict that Germany will come out on top of the group and Ireland will be second.

And where did our British friend aroma go? Were the stakes too high?

Seriously, though, I'm looking forward to the England-Argentina match. That should be a good one.

Not in group play. It just goes down as a draw, and each team only gets one point, as opposed to three points for a win.

[Edit: Oh, I get it. You're asking why they don't play overtime? Because group play is not elimination. After group play, they do play overtime, and they go to a penalty shootout if that doesn't solve it. Does that answer your question?]

No, they don't get any extra points, but when all the group matches are finished if two teams have the same number of points then the team with the greater goal differential gets the higher position.

Heh...the end game...as I understand it...the first rounds use the 'golden goal' system...where there are two 15 min end game times unless one team scores, then the game is over. Thus 'golden goal'. For the rest of the games, it comes down to goal shooting in the case of equal scores at the end of the official time.

Though in the first match-ups, there is no overtime...I think that begins in the next round...

hope that clears things up for you...

For all you in confusion if it's a draw in the group stages i.e the two teams level on goals e.g. 1-1 2-2 3-3 etc it stays as a draw each team gets one point,

In the next stage i.e knockout stage when it's a draw extra time is played 15 mins each way, the game is stopped when the first goal in extra time is scored hence the name golden goal if no goal is scored in extra time then it's penalties this means 5 penalties each team and by any chance both teams score the same amount of penalties it goes into sudden death penalties which means if one team scores the other team must score aswell or they lose, or if one team misses and the next team scores they win.

Now there shouldn't be any more confusion ( i hope) regarding the rules.

Lallous: in group play each team plays one match against each of the other teams, making three matches. It doesn't matter if you win or lose, you play them all. After that it's elimination, which means when you lose, you go home.
