Morning folks,

As you may have guessed from the topic header up there, this post is just my way of saying hello to y'all. Y'see, I've been an Asylum regular for a while now, but just as a reader, and now I feel like I've got something to contribute so it's time to start posting.

And what better first post than to say hi and introduce myself?

So yeah, my name's marc, i'm a hippy, and I love Photoshop and snazzy designs nearly as much as I love rock n' roll and sunsets over oceans... I want to start passing on some of what I've learned in Photoshop, instead of just keeping it all to myself, and this is one of the best places I've seen for honest questions matched with honest answers...

I definitely think I'm crazy enough to handle the Asylumites too... You guys look like you're a lot of fun...

Now, on to the thanks... To everyone who has ever contributed anything to any of the boards in the Asylum, especially the PS one: T H A N K Y O U !
There, now I know I haven't missed anyone... I've learned a lot from reading stuff in here, and it is appreciated... I can't remember all the specific examples, but thanks to everyone should cover it!

There are 4 people I do want to specifically say a big thanks to though:

DL-44 : Your "Sky Taffy" tutorial was one of the first I ever tried... Lucky me, 'cause some of the things in there are essential toolbox tricks these days, and the piece itself is inspiration to do the tutorial. Your stuff on interface design @ GN is also fantastic, can we have part 3 please? I always get one of two things from reading your posts, either good solid advice or a good chuckle from your standard response to dumbass questions

Dark Garden : Wow. Dude, I hope you're really, really old (like Yoda), because that's the only acceptable explanation for the depth of your skills. The fact that you spend so much time and effort passing on knowledge and encouraging those skills in other people puts you a cut above the rest, and if I had a hat, I'd take it off to you.

And last, but certainly not least, I want to thank the good Doc himself. Doc, your tutorials were literally the first I ever found for PS, and for that one fact I am eternally grateful. Coming into PS at version 6 meant that I could easily have gone down the "Layer Stylez" path of design, but you set me on the path to lighting effects goodness and I've never looked back. All the hands on tutorials gave me something, and the combined tutorials gave me a solid grounding in the things I wanted to know, and now I'm starting to push at the edges of that to develop my own style... So yeah, big thanks! You're the man, and your DHTML stuff scares me...

WHEW! That was one big rant, but that's the result of a year's exposure to the Asylum. I wanted to say all that before I became an active member of your lovely little community, and thanks to everyone who's stayed with it to here...

So peace out to all y'all, I'm looking forward to learning from you and hopefully helping some of you too...

All your exaggeration aside, I'm glad something I've done (we've done) has helped people along the way. It makes any work all worth it. Hardly around these days, but I must say it was nice to know some of it wasn't in vain.

As for the age...yeah, that's about right....I just look younger thanks to Oil of Olay.

Yes indeed, the "sky taffy" tutorial was written before this incarnation of Doc's forum existed...in response to Nate's requests.

It's based on Doc's images, and just my best guess at his technique, so I can't really take much credit there.

Glad you enjoy them - it's always nice to be of help

You guys have just reinforced all my beliefs about this place... Thank you for making me so welcome.

As to the mystery 4th person I wanted to thank, appropriately enough it was vogonpoet, the first person to reply to my post... I've always noticed that vp's "tone" is brilliant, and above-average levels of newbie-tolerance definitely shine through... I couldn't quite work out how to say that yesterday though, so I bailed... Not to fool you sharp eyed inmates, eh?

So yeah, vogonpoet, thanks for just being cool and funny. Not that your skills aren't also suave, but it's your manner with people that's stuck in my mind...

Maybe a nice email to him telling him these things would prompt him to come back, shrug off what has been done.

Anyway, glad to meet you and so far it seems that you are going to make a very nice addition to the Asylum. Right now I think we all could use someone that is going to use this place for what it is good for. Learning.

Hey thar hippy.marc! Good to meet you. I actually lurked around here for about 4 or 5 months before I actually posted. I felt a' slight intimidated at first, but really I had nothing to fear. Everyone here is super-friendly. And if you are in my boat, you are thankful that everyone here gives you feedback on things and helps you along in areas you never thought you could handle. It's really better than school in some ways.

And as long as this topic is going on, I'd like to personally thank Emperor and vogonpoet for criticisms and advices.

English: dunno, something like: let aoutside all your hope, you who is entering (but is not you exactly, is for several persons, too complicated to translate to english, italian is a little similar to spanish, even the old one)
