I need some help here fellas.. I am trying to install Linux Mandrake on my computer and I just can't get the damn thing going!

I downloaded the iso files from Linux website, then got them unpacked or whatever you call it and burned them on a cd... ok that went smooth...

so now, I even made a boot disk... I put a CD1 in my CDROm and boot disk in a floppy drive and reboot.. ok great.. I get the nice blue Linux screen and then it asks me which CD ROM I would like to use to install from.. (I have 2, one is DVD and the other one is a burner) so I choose DVD because thats where the CD1 is right? ok.. then it tells me: " It appears that the CD is not a Linux Mandrake installation disk" WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so I take my pc apart, move all the crap around, I have two hard drives so I disconnect the primary one and make the secondary my primary because thats where I want to install the LInux... I unplug my burner and set DVD to priamry... same damn thing...

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???????

Help??

Looks like you did something wrong while burning the ISO to the CD.

Are you using Nero? Go to File >> Burn CD Image and select the .iso file you downloaded.

After burning, you can put the CD into your primary CD-ROM drive and boot the computer from CD without the boot floppy. (But you can still use the floppy if this doesn't work.)

Well.. it came in one iso file so I downloaded this program that unpacks the iso file then I just used windows explorer and opened the folder>select all> and just dragged it to my cdrom drive where I had new disk sitting.. it did burn the cd and I can see all the files..

I don't have any burning software...I tried Easy CD Creator but it wouldn't work good with Win XP...and got sick of the hassle since I don't burn many cds....

this sucks

That's not how ISO files should be burned. You don't need to extract them, you must use burning software which supports burning directly from ISO files if you want to make correct CDs...

There's a free tool for Windows XP called ISO Recorder which lets you burn ISOs directly to a CD:

I never tried it but it seems to be what you're looking for.

hi max

I made the same mistake a while ago...Downloaded an
ISO File, extracted it with Isobuster and burned the
content with nero.
The CD didn't work....So I became a clu, that I didn't have
to exract the ISO. So I burned it and now its working....
