Hello everyone, I'm pleased to tell you that PsPong.com is getting very close to going live.

Virtually all planned features are in place now,
and so I ask you to give the testing enviroment under http://test.coonabibba.de/PsPong a thorough inspection this coming weekend.

Feel free to point out bugs, suggest changes or even new features in the Wiki that accompanies the site.

Thank you,
Tyberius Prime

Very nice TP and thanks for all the hard work effort you have put in it to get it where it is now .

I love this game so I'll test it all day if I could ...

IMO, you should replace the word "designers" with "artists" in the first paragraph. Also, I'm (personally) not crazy about the font, and I think that text box on the left could use more padding.

In general, I'd like to see a cleaner layout, preferably liquid. The gifs in the upper left of each box are a little unclean (they seem to be missing part of a white line).

The images on the main page should be links to the same thing that the text next to them links to. It's more intuitive to many people to click the images rather than the text.

You should put the copyright sign (&copy; ) after the word "copyright" under the links at the top, and perhaps add a small explanation of why those links are there. ("Affiliate sites" or a more detailed explanation.)

Be careful that the same match doesn't appear more than once at the same time in the "random matches" sections. Also, you might want to add a link at the bottom of the front page random matches section for "more matches" or something that goes to the matches page.

That's most of my advice from a quick look around the page. Nice job with the backend, it seems to work pretty well. Double check that any <'s and >'s and &'s that users input will be replaced with <, > and &amp;, just in case =)

[edit: Oh, perhaps you should also put some sort of explanation of the differences between PS Pong and traditional Photoshop Tennis, which has much more strict rules than are being implemented here.]

I'm not particularly fond of the layout.

-Liquid, ok, I know it's still lacking that... I'm currently thinking something up to handle it.
What do you mean by 'cleaner'?

>The gifs in the upper left of each box are a little unclean (they seem to be missing part of a white line).
-Now, how did that happen? anyway, fixed now.

>Be careful that the same match doesn't appear more than once at the same time in the "random matches" sections.
Can't happen, but might seems so because I used the same test images for more than one match.

Thank you for your critique,

When I say "cleaner", I'm referring to the details. A few examples:

The spacing between "sections" (boxes, whatever you want to call them) is inconsistent throughout the site and even on single pages. I'd say a 10 or 15 pixel spacing would be good.

There's no margin at the bottom of the page.

The design at the top of each box/section is sort of arbitrary. Like, there are two random lines going off the edge at the right, and having the corner folded over is sort of random. I think more could be done with this part.

I dislike that the underlines of the links along the top (when hovering) are longer than the words they're underlining.

The words "username" and "password" have a really big font size, which is inconsistent with the rest of the page.

In the random matches section, there should be a consistent height for each match. Maybe some sort of border or extra style to separate them. Right now it looks like just a table with images and text thrown in, with valign=center. Quick and sorta messy.

Plus, I think it needs more color overall. Not heavy color, but at least some highlight colors, like at the top of each section/box/whatever. All various shades of grey isn't working for me.

Those are just some things that come to mind. There's also the fact that it's table-based, which I say "blah" to =)

One of the issues i have is the look of the AVz.

We have lots of vertical space so lets use it. or... something. They can be usefull to see who some one is really quick, but they distract and interrupt the text.

Also in the chat dealy on the right... sometimes they mess with <hr>'s see

That's one unattractive layout.

After coming home, I realize that the large text I mentioned is due to differences in IE 5 and 6's font size handling.

I am wondering... Is the layout going to be kept as is... what about the other layouts that were created?

Are we getting ahead of the technical side... Are you planning on finishing/tweaking the code now and "skinning" it later?

I'm with Izzy on this one.

Finishing the tech and then "skinning" the site might be the best alternative at this point, because I was nowhere near joking when I said that the layout is really unattractive.

Who's working the front-end side of all of this?!

If the front end work is still up in the air, we should continue this over in the PSPONG Working Area.
