How about the sinking of 'The Empress of Ireland'? That ship was one of two owned by the Canadian Pacific, the company that is quite famous in America's midwest for it's railroad company. (My dad works for CP, even though we live in the states.)

Well we could deal with the fact that the planning of D-Day involved the Canadian Military, and was partially headed by a man named Mountbaten...
Or that the first ships and tanks to land on the beaches of Normandy had men with maple leafs on their packs (for some strange reason..cough)
We could mention how Canada repelled American forces in 1812 to crush the idea of Manifest Destiny...
We could discuss how the BNA was almost directly responsible for the Louisiana Purchase...

However, I'm not interested in saying that Canadian history is any "better" than anyone else's. It's just as obscurely important. The point to insider was to get him to keep his mouth shut when he's more than obviously ignorant (sound advice that some seem to be handing out here too). Whether it's ignorance over Canada, or his own neighbourhood:

Stupidity is stupidity.

My statements about the American education system are just facts Jestah...sorry that you have to deal with that ~shrug~

Oh...and as (hopefully) the last aside, saying that Canada has a "short history" when compared to the states...merely reinforces the facts above.

Though I shouldn't blame you, I'm sure that there are millions of people who are just as clueless due to that curriculum, and the manipulated "patriotism".

I whole heartedly agree with the Doc. My friends are you guys and gals here, adn you live all over the world, but you're all on the internet. Whatever may seperate us, distance, geographic location, political affilation, this is where we are at the moment, this is the only place that matters at the moment. There is no ponit in arguing over who's country is better than whose, because in the end, we're all net-inhabitants.

Skaarj - nobody's arguing over who's country is better. One person is saying a bunch of baseless bullshit about their own country....and the rest are pretty much pointing out what an ignorant jackass he is for ignoring fact for the sake of patriotism.

Yah, but it *is* getting tiresome.

Hey hey! This thread reminds me, I heard this joke recently! Two Canadians walk into a bar, see? Hmm, maybe I'll save that one for later, this might not be the best place for it, heh heh.

OK, howzabout this? Two high-school students walk into a bar... Hmm, that won't work too well either, lemme see...

OK, how many geeks does it take to install Lotus Notes? (trick question) Well, how many nerds then?

I have to say between this and the pledge thread I'm amazed by how closed minded and simple some of the inmates are.

I guess it's nice knowing that Insider apparently is prejudiced towards canadians and us folk from San Francisco (home of the "fruits and nuts" I believe was the line?)

Well my jokes were *both* trick questions, sorry about that one! How many geeks to install Lotus Notes? None! No true geek would ever do that. ;-) How many nerds? Last time I had the IT department in to install this software (under protest) on my workstation, it took 4, count 'em 4 nerds to accomplish.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm going to lock this thread now, even if it was a worthwhile debate (which it's not IMHO), it's just too damned long.
