just two days ago I searched for a domain name for the business I am starting .. only finding out today it has been registered at RegisterFree.com .. needless to say .. I'm just whining and bitching about having to find a new domain name and maybe even a new company name .. FUCK!

Yep there just all F**kers and the worse ones are the one that just sit on it with a sh*ty directory page to crap on the net, shame really.

What was your company name? And if it's full taken just word play on your company name.

I was just this with my domain name. I wanted copey.com as that's just my nick name and it's short and easy to say, but that's was take and so was christopercope.com, so I just but a line in between the first and second name to made christopher-cope.co.uk, which it is now. Just play with word and "-"'s.

I'll sorted it out I'm sure, but that's what you get if you don't get it right away!! As it might be taken in the next few minutes.

I would put the dash .. but then you have the posibility that people/clients will get your company mixed up with another company .. let alone if it is a Web Development company

I'd rather reserve my company name until I get the domain .. not saying anyone here is a Squatter .. but this isn't the first time this has happened to me .. so I'm just very protective about announcing things until they are official

Did you try variations on the name like:

company-web.com

company-online.com

yeah I have .. and I found the variation I needed .. but most other variations were taken

If you own the company called something, you might try sending this free registration place an email. I believe they're eager to resolve conflicts of this sort, and since you own the company name already that gives you some appearance of authority over the domain name. Free registrars don't tend to worry too much about dropping their customers when it could help avoid a lawsuit.

If I may, you could name your company (here it goes... this might sound kind of funny... but I think the name has potential...) 'Microsoft' Ya... it kind of has that ring of techyish. Darn thing is that someone is squatting on it so your going to have to send them a letter. Another good name is 'Sun' or 'Coca-Cola' but really after doing some quick searching... I found those names were also taken.

Damn.

Hmm, seems to me that "Coca-Cola" might be misinterpreted, I'd recommend "CocaCola" (without the dash), it'll be easier to spell. On second thought, it's actually a silly name, it'd be hard to "brand" such a term. Maybe just "Coca" or "Cola"?
