Wondering if anyone has any experience with a so-called 'lite' connection via your cable/@home service?
The connection is apparenetly 5 times faster than a dialup but not as fast as the full package. The 'carrot' is the cost, approximately the same as dialup. What I don't yet know is if they try and hammer you for connection and modem fees...which if you amortize them out over a couple of years...likely means you're paying 'more' than what the 'full' package is worth.. Anyway... anybody using the so-called 'lite speed' connection?

I don't know about the lite connection but I just got hooked up with cable and I love it. Its totally worth the cost.

hey NoJive, I'd assume that this is some sort of service offered locally by your cable provider (@home as a nationwide service went tits up about 4 months ago). You may want to check this out with someone locally.

bitd: Yes it's offered by the local cable company and so I'm wondering if any *other* local companies are offering something similar.

krets: Most of my one friends <lol> are cable connected and it's impressive alright.. I'm (we) just trying to figure out the cheapest way to go. btw... I've been having a helluva time getting your page to load. Get to the front end alright but ie stalls out when I want to get inside. Just a 56k thing?

Sounds like it would work like a standard cable connection, but your provider will throttle back the bandwith. Knology has something like that here in Augusta, but its used on commercial accounts. There are different packages.

I would see if there is a comparison on your local providers site. That should help you make your decision. Also check to see what they're cutting back on. They may give you a great downstream connection, but your upstream will be crap. Your uploads will crawl.

tiki: Upload rate never crossed my mind! BIG thanx on that one. I do know the 'lite' package being offered here includes only one email addie. Will look into it further... again thnx on the d/l.
