My taste of music is from the 70s, 80s. I seem to not be able to grow up and like the newer musics
- Genesis, Queen, Dire Straits (lately Mark Knopfler)
- Sting, Phil Collins, U2 (the older albums and the last one)
- Eros Ramazzotti and Claudio Baglioni mostly for italian music
- Zeze di Camargo & Luciano, for Brazilian music (they are a double, country singers)
- Willie Nelson (although a recent addiction, since 2000, it's now a very strong one - this guy is the best)
- Cirque du Soleil titles - I love them
- Some Spanish singers like Gloria Estefan, singing in Spanish please
- some others I can't remember right now like movie soundtracks (Don Juan di Marco, Rob Roy, for instance) so on

Yikes, I never heard anything from any singer/band mentioned here so far, with the exception of many from Wakkos list and AC/DC, Ozzy and Sepultura that I've heard about but never heard a music from them.
From Wakkos list, I like Barry White, some tunes by Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses, Gypsy Kings, Elton John, some from Metallica, Pink Floyd (specially the other side of the moon), Zucchero (miserere) and even Madonna. Oops, I almost forgot: Ave Maria, from Mozart is a master piece. Finally someone has a musical taste with some similarity to mine.

I listen to just about everything under the sun.

*Trance: Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyke, Timo Mass, Chemical Brothers, Authechre, etc. .
*Rock: Yes, King Crimson, Godspell, TOOL, etc. . .
*Jazz: Miles, Charlie Parker, Joe Henderson, John Scolefield, etc. . .
*Classical: Bach, Varese, Webern, Schoenberg, Xenakis, George Crumb, etc. . .

Right now I have been listening to mostly Trance but depending on my mood, I like to listen to some really wacked out Classical like the ones I listed. When I work on the computer, anything without words is a go. Things with words just distract me.

Does anyone here listen to "Classical" music?

Linkin Park's style and lyrics are both genius yes. Their songs are deep, rythmic, and they rock HARD. Ozzy's "songs" are one dimentional (sp?) and boring. The man can't sing and often can't even remember his own thoughtless lyrics. I would listen to NSync before I would disgrace my ears with his lack of talent. At least the "boy-bands" out there have a handle on tone and pitch.

I am so sick of people hating pop because it is pop. I love rock but there are a ton of rock bands out there that I simply can't stand. Black Sabbath is at the top of that list.

But look, these are just opinions and I won't change your mind and vice-versa. You like Ozzy? Fine, I won't hold it against you, but don't presume to tell me who I can and cannot "knock."

I've learned that "one must not argue about taste, we must argue about good taste".
Actually, music is about feeling and feeling is something extremely personal. You can't find two people with the same musical taste as you can't find two people with the same genes. I guess that even twin brothers should have different musical tastes...
So, people can like any kind of music they want and I won't bother. Just don't listen to them while near me, please I do the same.
But I'm really impressed with how different my musical taste is from most of the people here.

Without Ozzy your beloved Linkin Park would probably not even exist.

quote:
Linkin Park's style and lyrics are both genius yes.

Well, their style is just a remake of all the millions of boy bands out there, so I wouldn't refer to it as "genius". I would refer to it as "a bunch of posers" but as you said, "you got a right to love and hate what you want."

As for using the words "thoughtless, and "lack of talent" to describe Ozzy, I think his 15 albums, his world renowned Ozzfest concerts, and his own TV series speak for themselves.

Anyways, I could argue on and on about how much I hate them, etc, etc... You can like them, that's fine.

PS. No one said anything about hating pop because it's pop. I hate pop because it's all the same. Here's the gist of POP:
"This boy/girl broke my heart so now I have to write/steal a song about it and sing/lip sync while dancing/looking like an idiot and also while I show my tits/ass/rest of my fake body."

I wouldn't go as far to say that, mas. I'd listen to Linkin Park over Papa Roach anyday. A bunch of friends and I sat around listening to Papa Roach one day, and we picked out at least 4 songs from one CD where the ripped off riffs or bass/drum beats from some other band. If you were to use the description of "1 dimensional" and "thoughtless lyrics" for a band, I would apply it to them.

As for POD - they have a style all in their own. I wouldn't call them Nu Metal, or metal at all. They're more rock I think. I dunno, I hate trying to classify music into categories. Usually I just classify them into "stuff I like, stuff that's ok, stuff I dislike, stuff I can't stand". That's just me though

Actually, as far as the Nu Metal goes, wouldn't Jonathan Davis be kind of the iconic progenitor as opposed to Mr. Fred "Ass-Clown" Durst? I think that it was in Q(or one of those mags that I just can't live without) that they did an interview with Davis and traced his recording history and whatnot. Not stating fact, just a thought. And Linkin park = deep? In my opinion, they boys are a bit manufactured. Very clean, very crisp, their guitarist definitely knows his way around a catchy riff, but as far as anything new to offer the world of heavy metal......if there's something there, I'm not seeing it. I'd love to get more into this today, but I have to go cliff-diving here in a few

Just some thoughts from a non-metalhead who indulges his dark side once in a while....
....and used to *really* like Linkin Park.

Genius are such as Mozart and Einstein. If you said that they were good or great I
will/wouldn't have made a fuzz about it! But they are far from genius. Archive this
thread and come back here in ten years and you will wonder Who the fuck Linkin Park is.
I'm sure that everybody still will know who Ozzy is.

Some of the music that you listen to now your'e going to listen to when you get older.

One thing about POP is that you mostly only buy stuff which is on the radio. You buy mixed artist
albums that get outdated in a couple of months. You put it away and never listens to it again.
So what are you going to listen to when you get older/muture, POP? No I don't thinks so!
If you do they will call you "the old creepy smelly POP freak".
