i recently picked up an ibook and i'm ignorant as to what's the good software for apple boxes. i thought i had seen a thread like this before on the asylum but my search turned up nothing...

anyway, i'm looking for a good ftp program, a plaintext editor for html+etc, and... i guess that's about it. if you use an apple and there's a particular piece of software you absolutely love hit me up with some links and i'll check it out.

oh yeah, a chess program that isn't as ruthless as the one that comes with osX would be nice, hah.

I'm not a mac person however I know that BBEdit is considered the uber-editor on the mac

Oh and I don't know if it's still considered "the" program to use but fetch was the ftp proggie for the mac most people have told me about.

I use macs solely and agree wholeheartedly with bitdamaged. Both programs can't be beat.
And I'm glad to know I'm not the only one getting my ass kicked by that chess game

yeah... that fecking chess program. i was once the roy gomm elementary school chess champion but, alas, the computer cares not.

what do you kids use for browsing the web? the ie 5.1 that came pre-installed seems like a dog on most sites i visit in that it misinterprets the code very poorly and destroys layouts. netscape 6.2 seemed to handle everything i threw at it though...

mikey: I use nutscrape... I mean netscape 4.7 which works fine. (better than MicroSuck Explorer.)

I only played that game once. Once was enough humiliation.
As far as the browsers, Are we talking OSX? Then, yeah IE 5.1. I've not noticed any lag on rendering pages so far...*crosses fingers*
However, on my work computer (which runs OS 9.2), I have NN 6.2 and use it on occassion (but secretly hate it) heh

jedit is a good, free text editor that runs on OSX.

macosxapps is a good source for software.
