i have a problem with my computer and will hope that someone will be able to help me... i will be very grateful.
when i try to save a picture that i have found from the internet, my computer only allows me to save as *.bmp even though the picture is in *.jpg ...

in the past it is still fine, i am able to save as *.jpg but i am not sure what i have accidentally configure unknowingly resulting in such a situation now...

and this really pissed me off because of the amount of spaces that bitmap take out.

will be really really grateful if soemone will be able to help me.

what browser?you sure the images aren't bmps to begin with?
(if you mean IE) you sure that the 'Save as type:' box (after the 'Save Picture As..' option in the right-click menu) isn't selecting bitmap by mistake and you can't simply select 'JPEG (*.jpg)' from the drop down list?

as a last result, you could use a program like Getright to download just the image...

yes i am sure that the picture i am saving in 100% not bitmap.
 i am using IE..

for example your signature is in *.gif , right?
when i try to save it , the (save file type as) blank only allows a bitmap...

there is no .jpg in the drop down list..

      If it's still a problem, here's a useful short-term fix...
Click the image to set focus (assuming it's not a hyperlink).
If it's a hyperlink, [Tab] to the image,

 edit >copy
Switch focus to an appropriate folder,
 edit >paste

this will paste a copy of the original file and append [1] to te title e.g. myPicture[1].jpg

 Bingo! You saved as .jpg

Internet Explorer starts acting like that when there's a problem with temporary internet files. It saves images in bmp fomat because they are stored only in memory. Try to empty your temporary internet files and start over...

Ive seen that before too, but I thought it was the server doing it somehow exploiting a flaw in IE. maybe/probably not but is a possibility because in the same open window of IE I tried a few sites and it only happened with one. But a Temporary Internet Files screw seems more feasable.

if you cant get rid of the bitmap thing .. to save as gif or jpg
just put in the file name box
 double quote filename.fileextension doubquote
 so
 "filename.jpg"
and that will go around the chosen thing in save as

 Thanks

      I have a similar/not so similar issue...
for some reason IE has decided that I like to view my internet in the 'Smallest' text size- in reality, I like my 'Smaller' text size just fine.... every single time that I open my browser I have to change the setting. Dear Anne- what can I do?

That's like the probem I had in IE 5.5 on Win ME. It would pick a random font, colour and size for the text in the status bar. Can you image size 72, maroon, Wingdings text telling you that the page has loaded? |

OK added the bmp problem to the FAQ:http://faq.ozoneasylum.com/727/

The font size problem may be a memory issue - I had it and added more memory and it went away (ish - I'm sure it happened again the other day).

The font size (larger, largest, etc) appears random, but IE changes your font size when you hold CTRL and scroll your mouse wheel. Switch it back manually.
Holding CTRL and scrolling or using the menu (it's under View) will change it back for you.

In the status bar though? Cuase that's where my problem is cropping up. Pages display fine, it's just in that bloody status bar.

no- the text on the page...
I think I set it to 'smallest' a long-ass time ago to see something, and it just *has* to have a fucking selective memory...

...and I don't have a mouse wheel on this laptop... come to think of it, I don't have a mouse.

 and Skarjj, you're just wierd...hehe....
