Use whatever graphics you want.

I'll be using miniatures from the openRPG site myself. The only thing you have to think about is the size of the miniature so that you don't end up with a char the size of a dragon

Um, doesn't the 4d6 method also allow you to tailor your character to the class you want? You roll up your scores and then put them in the stats you want. I guess with the point buy system you can be sure that characters will be fairly even, but I think they both work. Oh, and why 28 points and not 30? Just curious...

So, my fate hangs on tiki and Spyx... I hate being a thorn in everyone's side like this.

Well, you could 'force' their hand...by going with what you want to play, instead of waiting...

And yes, die-rolling can also produce good stats...but I don't like the randomness of it. I like tailoring my strengths and weakness...to match with the character I have in my head...I normally start out that way - first think up the character, create his background, his personality, ways of thinking, likes, dislikes, etc. Then I tailor the stats to help represent this.

The reason I chose 28 points instead of 30 like in NWN is that the Dungeon Master Guide advices to use that number of points for a challenging campaign something I hope to provide

WS: I suppose you're right. With the roll system you could end up with some crazy stats...

Oh yes, something else. In 3rd edition, you get points at pre-determined levels (don't remember which ones...), so don't worry all that much with high scores (and it's not as important as it used to be). Also, some of the characteristics have been changed as to what their effects are (charisma, for example).

Actually, having some low scores can play to your advantage...they make the character more 'unique', and (IMHO) more enjoyable. Gives a little added 'kick' to the roleplaying part...

One ability point at every four levels. But you're right about the stats, having a good mix makes for an interesting character with his or her own quirks.

Hmm didn't see this till now. I haven't picked up the 3rd Edition rules yet but playing NWN shows me that they do have promise. My only gripe is I have dozens of seconed edition resources that are now all out of date. "Sniff"

Perhaps I'll be able to join one of your later games. Having beed a DM for almost 20 years now I rarely get the chance to play and the new skills categories and point system works very well. My 6th level rogue while a lousy stand up fighter can walk into a room and clean it out right under the guards noses. I usually walk into a room then let my henchman in as soon as they all crowd the door I sneak attack the strongest from behind. Lots of fun.

I don't have any problem starting next weekend (7th/8th of Septemeber?). As I said the only time that didn't work for me was this weekend since I haven't had the time to get all of the stuff together yet.

SPyX; how early can you get up in the morning to play?

tikigod: allow me to be the first (at least the first in this thread) to congratulate you on your upcoming wedding. You mentioned wedding stuff before, but I had kind of assumed you were talking about someone else...

As for the schedule, I'm not holding my breath. I'm not sure how the time zones work out, but realistically I would have to be done by midnight at the latest, and that would probably mean a few of you getting up real early in the morning. If it works out, it works out, but if it doesn't I think you'll have enough people to play without me. So I'll just hang tight and see how things go.

Ok sorry guys I'm still not exactly "back" but the time issue. . . hmmm I dunno that I could possibly do much earlier than 7 unless you wanna move it back to like 2am or something so that I'm not waking up. I'm just staying up. I find that to be much easier. If y'all think I should switch to a pure melee that's fine with me. I will leave it your hands since this is my first time. Okey, I will be gone for the next few days for "fish camp." Adios!

BTW: Don't know how to stack the stats yet but my char's name will be Siylebis.

So a possible time table is then 7am for tiki and SPyX, 1pm for ws and me and 11pm for Suho. But since Suho can't stay up and play all night that one doesn't work very well...

But if Tiki and SPyX could stay up late it might work for all of us... 2am for them is 8am for ws and me and 8pm for Suho and Skaarjj. The only problem with this one is that Tiki and SPyX has to get stay up pretty late since we will probably play a couple of hours each session so they won't get much sleep that night. Getting up early isn't a problem for me (at least not one that coffe can't solve ) and I hope it isn't a big problem for WS either...

Here is something interesting that I have found... http://www.rpgplanet.com/poolofradiance/

Now, you are probably wondering...WTF? Well, see on the right the link called Character Generator? Kinda an interesting tool, actually. It uses the point system in POR to generate a character (although one only has 25 points to use, and not 28). Also, though not all races/classes are present, it is still kinda nifty...

There are also graphics from the game to be found...esp. character graphics. Just thought I'd share that with you.

So you mean I might actually be able to play?

Yes, 20:00 is good. That was about the only thing I understood out of that last post, Veneficuz. Apologies to everyone, but I'm pretty well smashed (drunk, pissed--insert favorite term) at this point. That's another story entirely, though, and has to do with my graduation ceremony and the aftermath. But yes, I would be very happy if the schedule worked out so that I could play at 20:00.

I hope you all appreciate how difficult it was for me to type this. Again, apologies all around.

So far nothing has been decided (I think), but the plan is that we will play around 2am EST. I'm not sure how much that differs from you.. The problem is that you can be mighty tired the following morning

I'll post a short update on the background later on tonight with some more info on the recent events(civil war and orcish invasion etc ) along with another character description.
[edit]The new info is now online at the same place as before. [/edit]

Have everyone decided which class they will be playing?

It was probably one of the ghost from the basement come up to haunt the thread

Because of the time difference and everything we will be playing in the weekends, either Saturday or Sunday European time. I'm not sure how long each session will last, but I would think that we at least should try to play a couple of hours(2+) wheneever possible. Much shorter than that and the game will take a very long time...
