A couple of months ago ( think it was around Easter) a couple of us from the Asylum started a RPG campaign. After some minor starting problems with software and timing etc it all got started. We used an online rpg program called openRPG to play and it worked amazingly well imo. But the campaign we were running came to an abrupt end in June.

So now we (tikigod and I) are thinking of starting a new campaign and we figured that maybe someone else here would like to join our soon-to-be-adventure. We are thinking of using the D&D 3edition rules, since we used that in our first campaign and we allready have the books and know the rules.

Hey Veneficuz, I never talked to you in a long time. I might be able to do some online gaming with you folks since I am going threw job changes. I will be working second shift and going to school full time, so our time zone problems might work out. I've been playing a campaign for months and months with my friends in Illinois. I'm having fun with D&D again, so who knows how it will work out.

We can easily supply rule books to anyone that needs them for D&D 3rd Edition.

Oh, yeah, I'm in Korea, which would mean I'm +09:00 GMT... Skaarjj, how can you be 15 minutes ahead of the hour? I've never seen that before.

I'm pretty familiar with 3rd Edition rules, but I'm interested in hearing how the mechanics are going to be handled. Is there a program that is going to do that for us, or do we have to keep track of everything ourselves?

Also, I don't think you can find the 3rd Edition rules online, but you can read the d20 System rules. What this is, basically, is the core of the 3E system, released to the public to ensure compatibility in new games, etc. I've never actually seen a 3rd Edition book--I learned mostly everything I know from d20, and I've never had a problem. Hope it helps.

The the rules you need to have read (hopefully have) is the AD&D Players Handbook, V. is probably going to DM so he'll worry about the rest.

Inition, nice to hear from you again it be great to have you in the campaign(now that I have rules). Thanks for your help getting started before.

WS, Suho, Skaarjj, tj333 love to have you guys. I think the timezone problems can be worked out. V. is in Norway and I am on EST in Augusta, Georgia. Since I can only play on weekends Im pretty flexible about the time.

Glad to see so many people are interested. If anyone need the Player's Hand book send me a mail and I'll see what I can come up with

As tiki said I live in Norway (GMT +01), but we should be able to find a time that all of us can play.

I have an old campaign that I thought I would use now. The group I made it for dissolved before we got started, so I has never been used. I doubt that the campaign is first class since it is the first campaign I make, but hopefully it will do after some minor adjustments. So far the campaign is adoptable to most settings. I'm reading about the Forgetten Realms setting now, so might use a combination of the "standard" setting and that one.

Veneficuz and tiki: have you guys taken a look at the d20 rules? How different are they from the published 3e rules? From what I've seen, there should be enough there to at least get a character together and get started. I won't be around from Wednesday through Saturday of this week, but after that I should be free (relatively speaking, of course). We should think about how many people can commit, schedules, etc. You guys handle the logistics, since you've done this before.

WebShaman: we haven't decided upon a starting time yet since we don't know who is playing. But as soon as we figure that out we should be ready to go.

I haven't read through the d20 - System Reference, but they should be ok since 3E D&D is built upon those rules.

For character creation just make up a character using the 30 point by system (same as in Never Winter Nights for those that have tried it) chosing from all the standard races (Human, Dwarf, Elf, Half-Elf, Half-orc, Halfling, Gnome) and classes. I thnk the point by system is covered in the d20 rules Suho linked to. But if not I'll explain it later on. The setting for the campaign will be a pretty straight forward fantasy world. I'm not going to use material from any pre-made setting, except maybe some of the religions from the Forgotten Realms.

If you have any more questions, post them here and I'll do my best to answer them

Personally, I would prefer to create my character after we know for certain who will be playing. Also, I think we should discuss which classes we're going to take. We don't want to end up with an unbalanced party...

I usually play fighter types (either fighter or ranger), and with the return of the monk in 3e that has become my favored class. I am flexible, though, and I always like to try new things. I would even be willing to be the stopgap (ie, play the class that no one wants to take).

Well, if it's ok, I'm going to play a halfling Monk/Rogue...I love playing Halflings...Topknot to the rescue! Errrr...yeah.

Maybe we should all post here as to what we would like to play, as Master Suho suggested...then we could solve any 'difficulties'..

If you really wish to play the Monk, Master Suho, then my second option is for a Half-orc Paladin...I love Half-orcs...yeah, I think I'll go with the Half-orc paladin...kinda interesting...doncha think? Actually, I've done quite a bit of thought on this character...well, on both, really.

Who's the Mage? And the Cleric (Priest)?

Suho and WS:

Sounds like you both are definatlly in (correct me if Im wrong). As for the D20 rules, Suho, they should work as basis for your PC but you might need the Players Handbook to flesh him out.

You guys might want to download and get familiar with openrpg.

I usually play fighter-types. My fighters tend to be more swashbuckler like, not bruisers. My main preferences are rangers or fighter/rouges but im pretty flexible. I might consider playing a druid or a monk/cleric on this outing.

I would really like to use is one of the Oriental Adventures classes like a samurai or a shaman, if V will allow it.

tiki's tally-

tiki-something he'll see what the others play
WS-Monk or a Paladin
Suho-Monk, fighter, or Ranger
Veneficuz-DM

or maybe we could all be monks...

Skaarjj: How interesting. So, does that mean when it's twelve noon here, it's 1:15 where you are. That baffles me. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.

Like I said, I don't have to play the monk, but that would be my first choice. Also, just curious, but when you guys say things like monk/rogue and monk/cleric, are you talking about multiclass? Because I can't imagine why anyone would multiclass a monk. In my mind, monk is the best pure class out there. Or maybe you just mean "monk or rogue."

I'm going to be gone for the rest of the week, so just keep truckin' along without me--I'm still in. As for getting my hands on the 3e books, that might be a bit difficult. I'll see what I can do, though.

Well Master Suho, the Monk/Rogue multi-class combo is one of the strongest in the 3rd edition...(note: 3rd edition is very different from previous rules for multi-classing...read up on it). The reason - the Monk and the Rogue 'share' many of the same areas...and stats...thus making it ideal for multi-ing...can you say a Monk's open hand with backstabbing? Bye-bye, monster....

Plus, who can sneak around as efficently as a Monk/Rogue? Also, the Monk has a different hp die in the 3rd edition...which combines with the Rogue very nicely...a Rogue with not only good hps, but very good ac...just don't cut that wisdom short (adds to ac for a Monk...)

Well, I have decided...I'm a Half-Orc Paladin...maybe I'll multi to Priest a bit latter...also one of the most powerful of class combinations...

Wait until you read his background...interesting, it is.

We need a Mage character...

Nice to see that tikigod has an interesting idea for a character...*hopes that Oriental characters will be allowed*

So who is the Mage?

I have no problem with classes from the oriental adventures or any other book as long I can find somewhere to read about the class etc before hand.

About the multiclassing; you are free to multiclass whatever you want as long as you can come up with a 'role playing' reason to do so.

I've uploaded some background info at http://www.p-design.net/dnd/ . It is not finnished by far yet, but at least it is a beginning.

SPyX: since you live in GMT-6:00 it is most likely that you will have to play in the mornings. As it stands now the most suiting time that I can see would be 9am for those(tiki and SPyX) at GMT-6, 4pm for us(WS and me) at GMT+1 and around midnight for those(Suho and Skaarjj) at GMT+10. But since nothing is decided yet still timeschedule are open for change. Does anyone have any other idea how we might solve it?

If any of you have problem getting hold of the Player Hand Book give me a mail and I might be able to help you out...

Suho- I was joking about all the monk characters. I just thought it would be funny if we were all monks fighting our way through the dungeons.(I was thinking of playing a monk also)

Like WS said multiclassing a monk can lead to some very powerful combinations. By using a monk/cleric I have monk who can heal himself and others, also I can roleplay him as a more "mystical" monk.

WS- Thanks, I like playing characters that are not so "eurocentric." I love the Oriental Adventures book and also al-Qaadim which adds classes from Arabia.

Like Suho Im also willing to be a "stopgap" to help fill out the party. When I play spellcasters I tend to be non-traditional or multi-class them later.(1d4 HD just sucks)

tiki's tally 2-

Veneficuz-DM
tiki- possible "stopgap" or something from OA(samurai, sohei (warrior monk), or shaman)
Suho- possible "stopgap" or monk?
WS- Half-Orc Paladin
Skaarjj- not decided
SPyX- not decided

I think we're close to being ready we might want determine when we want to start playing.

A suggestion, depending on what V. thinks, is that we use the first session to get our open RPGs set up and not worry as much about getting started adventuring. An alternative is that Veneficuz and I can help people configure through ICQ or openRPG so we're all ready to start during the first session.

What do you all think?
