I have to write a paper for my writing class on recent (preferably) advancements in Computer Graphics that may affect movies or computer games.

Does anyone know of anything like this? A place I could get information on this topic, or maybe something specific that I could write about?

I'm having trouble finding any particular advancements... I can change my topic if need be, but I thought I'd ask here as sort of a last resort.

hey, i did nearly the very same one year ago for my CG class.

it was a 10-page document about shrek and then a 30min presentation. but im afraid its in german.
anyways, let me know if you are interested.

synax, with recent he means the latest advancements in technology like mayas new fluid thing or that fire-animation was recent for shrek last year.

edit: i just looked again, i have a pdf from last years SIGGRAPH about shrek in english.

Hmm, recent means (ideally) within the last month or so, or maybe something that would start to take effect in the near future. But anything you can give me is welcome =)

Well I think real-time rendering is taking more effect now. Especially on kids TV shows where the main character is a CG doodad of some sort, and the actor is off screen covered in sensors so the character mimics his/her movements.

I think most if not all the recent advancements are related to 3D CGI somehow anyways.

We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.

Have both of them =)

Spot, I believe, isn't raytraced; it looks heavily triangulated.

Thanks for the links though. Links are good =)

I don't know about the last month but if you want some sort of case study the Final Fantasy movie supposedly did tons of development in this area, really pushed a lot of technology forward.
