Im doing java in college and caught wind of a program called Forte.

Uhh, isn't Forte a gui for working with Oracle (particulary on a Sun system)? So, yea I suppose you can use that for working with Java...

Actually, that's quite a coincidence, because I'm supposed to be "familiarizing" myself with the Sun systems in the lab here before all the CS profs get them installed in their offices so I can show them how to do whatever it is they do but with Unix now... I remember hearing mention of installing Forte (or maybe it's already installed... maybe I oughta start paying a bit more attention...)...

Yea, so I hope that helps a bit... Probably not, but I'm sure someone else here knows something about Forte.

I also dislike Forte very much. The labs here at school seem to use JBuilder, but like Ini, I like using a text editor (UltraEdit-32) and SUN's javac compiler.

Has anyone here tried jikes?

It's a really nice editor but it's a mad resource hog, I'd use VIM instead....
(Unless your trying to make a GUI)...
