Really like the new look, guys, but it won`t let me tell you that over there.
Did I piss somebody off again ?

Logged in as me, it tells me I don`t have permission to access the page when I try to post.
I can break anything.

it's a permissions issue in the entire forum Pugz

you can upload an avatar bob, woohoo!

ya did goo-ood

Jason

EDIT, this might help, duh...

1. You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are you trying to edit someone else's post or trying to access administrative features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum Rules.

2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

yes! phpBB2 is much more customizable and secure(!).

but you probably choose vBulletin because of the update thing. right?

so, when is the complete GN relaunch scheduled?

db: Yes we thought it was best to keep you out for as long as possible - it may be that you were trying to post in the 'Welcome to the Gurus Network' which only admins and moderators can post to (if it is confusing I'll add something into the description). Accounts shouldn't need activating (well mine didn't) but I know when phpBuilder switched over to VB I had to reactivate my membership so check you inboxes. If you or JKMabry is till having problems then let me know.

GRUMBLE & mr.maX: Yes a free version may have less hassle but at the time we looked around most of the free boards didn't have the UBB importing features and we thought it was vital to move everyone and all the posts.

GRUMBLE: I'm not going to pin a date on it but things are moving along at a good pace

InI: You only see the ads if you aren't logged in or registered

velvetrose: There wasn't any discussion - it just happens to be there. I'll speak with DL and others and we'll see

OK it seem like a permission problem in the 'other stuff' forum (formerly misc) - I've changed them and it seems to be working fine (thanks to RammStein for testing things there).

And before anyone says - yes the HSBoD is a problem and that is my next job.

I'll do beta testing anytime .. I REALLY LOVE MAKING THINGS NOT WORK .. HEHE .. I love over flooding a system and trying to max it out

Odd. Didn't touch the permissions on that one - not intentionally anyway. I think DB sabotaged it personally....

Ah well. All better now?

And yeah, the login at the bottom is just the way vbulletin is set up. Personally I like it there. =)

I might put a button at the top that takes you to the login part at the bottom. No biggie. The bottom is the default location for vBulletin.

As for the banners, they only appear if you are NOT logged in.

jive .. my only comment is .. vBull was designed to handle massive influx of posters and posts for that matter .. ikon sucks in that category unless you have a dedicated server .. and not to mention it uses CGI! .. can we say yuck .. anyway .. also .. seeing how I've worked with both .. vBull is much more admin friendly then ikon is .. mind you I haven't played with the new version of ikon but IMHO .. PHPBB2 is better then ikon .. it's just the cgi thing that bugs me

vBulletin was DESIGNED with "modding" in mind. The Admin Control Panel has nearly everything you need to modify the forums to your taste, including add features, moving things around, etc. AND, those changes withstand version upgrades! You can't go wrong with that!

We've still got a few more little tweaks to make, but it's coming along real nice. Just when DL-44 thinks he's done, I toss more things on there that require new buttons....

Maybe I'll hang out there a litle more often now -- and maybe I'll actually get around to doing some of those tutorials I've promised... maybe.

Edit: Oh about those posts you can't reply too. Maybe you could figure out a little hack so that the board won't show the ~reply~ section at the bottom of the thread unless you have acess to reply. Just a thought.

InI: I still don't understand about the live zoom business (I'm having a Stupid Day - they seem to be getting closer together which is a worrying development ). Do you mean if you move the square the zoom box in the bottom left zooms in from the lower resolution to the higher one? I suspect it might be a bit tricky to do (they are 2 different maps) and that Steve might poke me in the eye for suggesting it and I'm not sure of how useful it would be - panning around slowly is far more helpful (but I also suspect we still aren't talking about the same thing).

Real geographical data? I doubt it is possible without a lot more work - co-ordinates are currently just stored as an X and Y in the DB. I'm not sure how 'correct' the maps are either. We went this route as it was the simplest to do and having actual co-ordinates didn't seem to have advantages. I would imagine it would be possible to work out the distance between 2 points but as the map currently stand this can't translate into distance on the ground.

[edit: Actually I'll start a thread over in the GN on the locator as we might as well use the appropriate forum]

[edit2: OK see here:
