What might be the best ways to conduct on-line payment? The thing is, I need to implement this for an on-line membership system as well as for one-time immediate purchases of on-site content. So PayPal certainly doesn't seem like the way to go. I'm pretty much assuming this will have to be a hand coded job, so I'm looking for what you guys usually do with this.

thanks again all.

Emps, I made recently a shoping cart and found a lot of things interestings (at least here in Spain)
Look, I made a contract with a bank for a Telp@go 4B (info about 4B).

The 4B solution to the payments in Internet consists of a TPV resident software in the servers of 4B System and that is accessible through the Network on the part of the commerce from its virtual stores. Thus, the commerce will have a Web page where the client will be able to introduce his card data and to carry out the payments, obtaining an immediate answer with the resolution of the payment process. The data of cards are directly managed by System 4B, guaranteeing to the buyer the suitable management of their data, and eliminating the salesman of responsibilities of storage of this information. The main advantage of this centralized system is that it avoids that the commerce must install no other people's software in its servers (exepting the shopping cart, of course) and does possible to include improvements, new functions and updates from System 4B of transparent form for the commerce. The establishment only must inplementar the interface of connection SSL with resident software in 4B, that allows him to accept financial cards in its Web site. The heart of the transaccional motor resides in 4B and is same that is used in the commercial transactions of the physical world and automatic tellers of all the network 4B, which guarantees the rapidity and reliability of answer.

This has no cost for us here in spain, and I guess that is a service offered in all the countries (me think, could you check please?)

As the faq says, one of the best shoping cart that accept this service is OsCommerce, since adding a simple module that conects with the bank.

Oh!
I added a link to the faq wiki there, I made this question 2 years ago, or so...

You would need merchant account and a gateway. Typically, you need to be register as a business with your city or whatever BUT, some companies offer those services without the need for you to be Inc, LLC or whatever.

Good move on not using paypal. They will frezze your money sometimes without warning! I spoke with some people that had 10s of thousands of dollars held hostige by PayPal

Now, many companies that provice merchant services, have option to implement many shopping carts that shoudl come with your hosting.

Anyways, contact me offline and I will try to explain it to you in more detail.
