It's weird. I spent ages a while ago looking at binary charts and what not trying to understand how IP adresses and subnet masks are calculated...then I happened across one in the IT managers office at work today, and suddenly it all made sense. Now I know how they are calculated. Unfortunatley now is not when I neeed to know it, back then was. But at least I know now.

Ever had an experience like this one?

Heh. Yeah, I remember having one of those...in Tech School, Block IV, Solid State Transistors. A 4 week Block, with a major test at the end...I remember 'sweating it out' to the end of the third week, try as I might, just couldn't seem to 'grasp' how a transistor really works...and it was making me desperate (test coming up...). So, one day, I was drinking from a water fountain, and it hit me...transistors work a lot like a water faucet...the test was a breeze, after that 'revelation'. Thankfully, it came in time to 'save' me.

Doncha just love how the sub-concious sometimes works?

This sort of thing happens all the time when learning a new language. You usually learn the stuff without thinking about what it really means, and then at some point in the future it suddenly hits you... "Oh, so that's where that came from" sort of thing.

Yep, I love it when that happens. Something goes 'click' in your head, and for that brief moment, all is good in the world. Unfortunately, it happens the most just as you're falling asleep, when your sub-conscious starts "taking over." Then you wake up in the morning and go, "Oh crap, what was that I figured out last night?"
Or like Suho said, you do something and another very slightly related thing from your past, that you haven't thought about in a long time, all of a sudden makes sense. About like the water fountain, haha.

I get that every day.

The world just doesn't make any sence untill I'm at least half way through my first cup of coffee.

...first cigarette..

but I really fucking hate the feeling that I knew something last night and now I forgot, 'cause I'm probably never gonna get it again... that happens to me a lot...

Kind of like calculus...

It never really made sense to me until...

Ok, so it still doesn't.

Don't understand calculus? What's wrong with you? lol

Actually, the best way to learn it is to teach it to someone else. And luckily, I've been the quasi-supplemental-instruction guy in all my math classes for the last 8 years...

But that's true for just about everything. If you think you know something, go attempt to teach it to someone else. It's usually a very humbling experience.

One of those irony's of life... The best way to learn something is to teach it... Go figure.
