yeah search is no good here. They delete everything.

ZoneAlarm i hear is the best. Here's the quick link -->click

I don't personally use it, since I got a free router using FREESCO, but GRC.com seems to think it is the wicked bomb and that guy is one smart geek.

That's not true. Almost all the threads that could be useful at a later date aren't deleted but moved to the archives. So if a search in the Ozone forum doesn't turn up anything there's a good chance that you'll get some result when searching the Ozone Archives instead.

And apart from that, the FAQ is also searchable - enter "firewall" into its search form and voilà:

hhmm.. well I searched and when I tried to click on the link it would take me back to the search page... so it didn't work for me...and I know topics are archived... oh well...moving on...

I dont' really fully understand about the whole FAQ deal. I mean, yes, I undertand that some questions are asked a lot so FAQ help but in the same time, it seems to me like everytime someone asks question in here, they get reffered to FAQ. Why have this message board then? Just have FAQ...

The thing with message boards is that you have an option to find an answer to your problem lot quicker than searching a huge database of questions. no? or is it just me? I dont' know but for me it's lot less frustrating to just start a new thread and ask away and receive my answer.

Anyways, thanks for all the help. I downloaded Zone Alarm for now but I have to get something else I think. It doesn't give me much info.

I never meant to say that you should go to the FAQ instead of asking a question here - I just thought the information about free firewalls in there might help you decide which one to take.

Now that you have ZoneAlarm (I have it too...great firewall!), download VisualZone Report Utility...it's a great little program that fits ZoneAlarm like a glove...for all your informational needs...

A big Kudos to Shii for that little piece of advice, from way back when...

If you more control over the in and out of you computer try Kerio Personal Firewall, Kerio Personal Firewall is FREE for home and personal use. So if you like more to fiddle and tweak have a go of that but read the FAQ and the Manual before you start as it is a little complicated to set up with all the rules and stuff. After a while though you'll get used to it.

If you do not want to fiddle and tweak, as you just want an easy to set up firewall just use Zone Alarm it?s good enough.

I use ZoneAlarm too, and I'm pretty happy with it. I'm definitely going to check out WS's link, too...

Right I've had my say on the FAQ aspects here:
http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum1/HTML/005902.html

so we can get back on topic.

I use Outpost - I'd read that ZA was slowing down IE a bit and I had noticed that it wasn't wroking quite as fast as I expected so I swapped and I'm very happy. It has numerous custom plugins and is so customisable it could be the source of many a lost hour. It blocks out a lot of web ads as well so you could possibly do away with numerous other pieces of software and integrate a lot of things into the one firewall. Its not as neat and user-friendly as ZA but the pay off is the customisability.

Certainly worth looking at especally for us nerds who are never happy with the basic installation of anything

Emps, ZoneAlarm is very custimizable...at least, it has been for me...of course, it helps to skim-over some docs on it...hehe...

*shrugs*

Each to his own, I guess...

WS: I'm sure it is - its all relative. After using ZA for so long I was suprised by all the extra things you could do with OutPost - far more than I could ever be bothered to use but..... However, it isn't as easy to get into as ZA.

Then again I tend to be a jump straight in, forget the RTFM nonsense (who has time in these days) kind of person so perhaps I missed out on lots of interesting goodies. I changed because of the speed issue not because of all the things you can do to it.
