When I came home this christmas break mom told me that the computer has been acting funny. Its a MESS. I'm sure a lot of you have been in this situation before. I've cleaned out all the spyware, and useless regsitry settings and done a lot of other misc. maintnance. I downloaded AVG to scan for viruses and found a LOT! The problem is most of them can't be deleted. I've set windows to show hidden folders but now I still can't delete the files or change their properties or anything. They're all in a temp folder but I can't delete it either. How can I get around this and get access to those files? I've tried the DOS prompt too, but the OS on this system is WIN ME so obviously the DOS prompt didn't have access to the files either. What should I do? |

yeah keep either F8 or ctrl pressed during early boot... then windows should ask (can't remember which... they changed it from one version to the other). |

I don't think I can boot from a dos prompt. Isn't Dos completely gone (except for the fake command prompt bundles with windows) in the Windows ME OS? I'll give it a shot, I tried safe mode already but that didn't work either. |

Yup, just as I suspected, no option to boot in DOS prompt anymore |

Norton Antivirus can remove those kinds of virus's, plus it's cheap, like $20. |

I've always kept my Win 95 boot disk for this sort of thing. But, if you don't have one... |

Some days ago, I wanted to patch my DVD driver to make it region free. But I needed a DOS diskette and my machine only has Win2k and WinXP - I can't make a DOS diskette anymore. |
