Hey guys, having a problem I was hoping someone could help with.

I am using Textpad, and for some reason when I save an HTML file and uplaod it, the double spaces between the periods and the next sentence in my text is removed, so the sentences are butted up against each other.

Now, I've copied the text from the webpage, and pasted it into the editor, and the spaces (which aren't there on the web page) are there again in the editor. =(

I've tried tweaking all the settings I can find that might effect it, but no luck.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Double spaces? I was under the understanding that HTML doesn't support double-spacing and will turn a double space into a single space unless you put a nbsp doohickey in there.

Of course, that still doesn't explain your problem. Could you maybe post an example for us to take a gander at?

Well, yeah - you're right about the html/space issue. Didn't realize that.

Somehow, my problem has gone away. Not sure what I did to change it, but...it's all gone

Thanks for the tip though.

*whew*

I was just worried you wouldn't be able to understand my highly technical description.

Was tough...

Seems that it was somehow a problem with the individual file I was working with, and not the editor.

Still don't know what happened, but it's over so I'm happy.

On the other hand, modern computer typesetting (web, print, doesn't matter) is designed so that a single space between sentences is all you need. Is there a special reason why you need an unusually large space between sentences?

sounds like the combination of different OS types authoring on the same file and uploading/downloading via ASCII and/or Binary in the wrong combinations

terribly confusing problem, be glad it's gone

DL, you clearly said "tweaked all relevant settings," so this isn't for you so much as for anyone else who's reading this thread hoping for some whitespace enlightenment... if you're making text for the web, always set your editor to use UNIX-style line breaks and whatnot. UNIX-based systems are the foundation of the web, and it's wiser to speak UNIX from the get-go.
