Now that I am happy using Trillian. I thought I would uninstall msn messenger for good. I never liked the way it just loaded itself without my instruction and then would not allow me to quit it without going to Windows Task Manager and manually "Ending Task". So off I went to the "Control Panel" to Add/Remove Programs, and removed it. (I am running XP Home)
I don't suppose it was using up a lot of my systems resources, nevertheless, I resent being forced to allow this pimple on the face of my beautiful taobaybee (the name of my 'puter).
Then while checking my email the 'orrible little pimple appeared again! I had only just uninstalled it hours earlier!
I realise, my trusted Asylumites, that I really should wait to hear your opinions and listen to your advice before taking any drastic measures,,,but,,,somebody has eaten my little black pills and,,, I found this site called The Register and I have decided to follow its instructions for the removal of said abomination.
After writing this post I will perform the "msndectomy"
Please send out a search party If I haven't returned within 24hours. I don't trust msn mess' my 'puter my crash/explode/perform an illegal operation and close.
Also please excuse any spelling errors (or even the strange nature of this post as

Thanks for keeping an eye on my cell The more I think of it the more it reminds me of a spot (or perhaps zit is a better word) I just can't seem to stop picking at it !!
Right I'm off to Quixotically battle that Dragon shaped messenger, or is it a windmill over there..."Tally Ho"!

It is eeeeeeeevil. Trillian is good. My sister is evil, for she keeps using MSN. Have you searched for the physical location on your harddrive where MSN is located? tried renaming the directory, so windows can't find it anymore? If that works, you can safely delete it.

xp-AntiSpy also has an option which lets you remove the MSN Messenger completely:

Service pack 1 or not, typing this line (from that doc) at a command prompt always worked for me: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

*shrugs* Best to do as they say though.

Ever have one of those days?
The paper cut on the tip my left index finger wont stop bleeding. So I have tyo type for a bit then stop, wipe the keyboard down before it congeals, replace the dressing, correct the spelling yada yadayada yada. You know the score right?
SO,,,,kuckus, I'm sorry that link does not work for me I just get a blank page.
Butcher, thanks but I have done all the things suggested in your link and MSG still loads, OK it only loads now when I start Outlook Express, but once it has loaded itself (icon next to clock) I still have to go to Task Manager to remove it.
Mahjqa and Asptamer, XP will not let me touch that folder!! I get this message, even when as far as I can see it is not in use...

I knew how to overcome this when I was using Win98SE, but I don't know XPHome edition enough to overcome this yet.
You guys have been really great helping me like this Big Up and Love to you all.
Oh Nooo whats happened to my sigs hahahahaha
mttere stumble mutter

Silly me FrontPage has uploaded a renamed folder so I guess i will have to redirect all my sigs in other posts arggghhhh all 160 of them!!!!!
[edit2] The days getting better,,, fixed the sig problem.

Taobaybee

Sorry to hear about your paper cut. They can cause more pain and more mess than a bigger cut sometimes.

If you follow the instructions that Raptor gave you it should solve your problems. I used that same method to get rid of it on my machine and have not had a problem with it since.

Taobaybee: Maybe they don't allow direct linking to that file - try going here and click the [English] link at the top:

http://xpantispy.de/download.htm

but as Butcher said Raptor's method should work just as well because xp-AntiSpy probably executes that very command when you click the button...

Latest update.. ... . .. kuckus and butcher thanks for insisting that I try Raptors suggestion. I "overlooked" it 'cos I have this phobia about the C:/Prompt, but that is for another thread.
So off to the C:/prompt I went, entered the command and,,,,

Not exactly a helpful message as I had nothing running, still I went on and then:
