As for dates, I'm free this coming Saturday (I mentioned that in my last post in the previous thread, but I guess it got lost in the shuffle).

Since everyone in the Dragonhunt campaign is also in this one, I might as well post here instead, since it would affect both groups. Since running two campaigns on the same schedule is obviously impossible, what would you gentlemen say to playing Veneficuz's campaign and mine on alternating weekends?

edit: To Suho, Petskull, etc, I know it sounds selfish to ask you not to play at all half the time. But it sort of looks like the alternative is to put the Dragonhunt back on the shelf (or start over with different players). Thoughts?

Well, I'm sure Petskull won't mind.

As for me, I most likely won't be able to play every weekend, and this will generally come out to every other weekend for me (I generally go visit the in-laws every other weekend). If you wouldn't mind, maybe we could work it out so that you could play the Dragonhunt campaign when I'm unavailable, as long as this works out to be about every other week. What do you think?

RN3, just read a little ways into this transcript and perhaps it'll become clear.

The basic idea is this: One person, the "Game Master" or "Dungeon Master," imagines a world. Everyone else is a "player" -- they control characters in this world. The GM explains what's happening, and the players tell the GM what their characters are doing. For example...

GM: So, what now?
Player: I head down to Division Street to get a bratwurst.
GM: Okay, when you arrive, the street is crowded with the lunch-hour rush. People jostle you from all sides. All the vendors are doing a brisk business.
Player: I get in line at one of the hot dog stands.
GM: After you've waited in line for a minute or two, a burly biker-type cuts in front of you without so much as a by-your-leave.
Player: Really? Okay, I tap him on the shoulder. "Hey, buddy, wait your turn!"
GM: He turns around slowly, with a menacing expression. "You got a problem, chumpo?" He's got an eye-patch, a giant scar, eight face piercings, and more tattoos than normal skin.
Player: "Yeah, I've got a problem! A problem with your ugly face!"
GM: He's not happy to hear that. Looks like it's a fight!

Of course, these games usually take place in more of a fantasy or science fiction setting, but the basic principle is the same. There are usually complex rules governing combat between characters -- that's where the dice and things come in, and some people move little figures around on a map, too.

The best way to think of it is that it's an interactive story, told by a group of people, which can sometimes use board-game elements. However, all the dice and miniatures and things can be removed; the story cannot.

RN3: Fortunately for the faint of heart, though, PT cut that last transcript off right before the Player got stomped into a pancake...

PT: Since I'll be able to play this weekend (and next weekend is the lunar new year, so I won't be playing then), how about scheduling Dragon Hunt for next weekend?

If Skaarjj is cool, then we just need to hear from tiki...

That sounds good -- we can run the rest of WS's prologue with Veneficuz and Tikigod (and if Skaarjj wishes to sit in he'll have his choice of NPCs to run). Then we can do Tikigod's prologue with Skaarjj on the next open weekend. That's better than our current plan for Tiki's prologue, which involved his wife getting cross with him again.

So, unless anyone chimes in with a different opinion, we'll do that on the weekend after this one.

OK... now that everyone but tiki has said they can play, how about we work on a time--if possible, a time that won't require tiki to stay up all night. I know it's rough for our European contingent to get up early, but I think tiki has been making the greatest sacrifices in the time department. So, if at all possible, can we make things a little easier on him this time around?

I would also consider a complete shift in our schedule... for example:

1100 GMT
----------
0600 Georgia
1200 European Crew
2000 Korea
2200 Australia (?- I think Skaarjj is two hours ahead of me... right?)

I imagine that this would make things easier on tiki. Of course, Skaarjj would take the brunt of this time schedule, but at least no one would be starting at one o'clock in the morning (or whatever obscene hour we started playing at last time). It would also be easier on the European Contingent, since they wouldn't have to get up early.

Granted, I wouldn't be able to play as long, since I have to get up early the next day, but if we started on time I could guarantee at least four hours.

So, what do you think?

[Edit: I talked to Mrs. tiki a few hours ago, and apparently tiki is bed-ridden, which would explain his absence. I just hope it wasn't because of his all-night session last time...]

DNS server errors plagued our game on saturday, so we eventually gave up without ever having had the opportunity to declare the session open. We tried again on sunday night, and then one went much more smoothly. No WebShaman clones popped up to plague us...no one got disconnected, and we had a great 2 1/2 hours of game time.

Many character developments, including Indemar showing one of his major fears

A good session all-round...glad to have played it.

If we can swing it we may want to try for another session sometime during this week, since we have the Dragonhunt campaign on satuday...or we may want to try doing Dragonhunt saturday and this campaign on sunday...whaddaya think?

Well, whatever weekend you don't play on, I'll suggest the final segment of WS's Dragonhunt prologue. This last session was just demon-bashing (yeah, I know, paladins are SO holy-centric in their outlook) -- things get a lot more interesting right after the point where we stopped.

Hey, hey, he's got the right idea... all the "secret techniques" are supposed to sound like something out of a Japanese cartoon or a video game. Burning Wave, Gates of Heaven... the trick is to bury the style deep in a game-world shell. I want everything to make sense together, to feel organic. So the Church of Kahan has moves called "Dark Shackles," "Black Gate," and "Crumbling Future..." but they come from a verse in their scripture:

quote:
Your longing for the past, and your fear of the future, are the dark shackles that bind you to the hollow ground. Every passing second is a black gate: until you hurtle through, you cannot see the other side. You waste the present, forever building a shaky bridge to a crumbling future.

The only way I could truly enjoy putting in a ton of video game references (two in the previous quote, by the way, call 'em if you see 'em) is if they're completely integrated into the game world.

Oh, and Master Suho might be able to give you some tips on Explodist magic, Dannyl -- one of the guild's custom spells is called "Exploding Thunder." (1d6/level damage up to 10d6, 5m radius, knocks each victim 2m away from the point of impact; damage and knockback halved by Reflex save)

Wow, sounds like you guys have some cool moves in that campaign. Telana's best moves are heal-the-bleeding-warriors, unleash-holy-fury-on-bad-guys, get-shot-with-crossbow-bolt-and-almost-die... you know, the basic stuff.

Was thinking of orcs, kobolds and skeletons to start of with. A basic 'bad human' mini might be nice as well.

If you create them I can then alter them somewhat to distinguise the special characters of each race when we need that and use your minis for the standard people/monsters...

Who's up for playing this weekend? (Beginning with WebShaman and working outward from there; although if WS can't make it, yet Skaarjj and Tiki can, we can do Tiki's prologue.) I've got my schedule clear for the same time as last weekend; or I can do pretty much whatever.

Robot roll call!

edit: Oh, and WebShaman, if you haven't had a chance yet to study the churches of the four archangels and archdemons on the religion page, see if you can find a moment. There's only a paragraph or two on each of those eight churches, and it'll enhance your understanding of what happens in the riveting (I hope) conclusion of your prologue.

double edit: Just looked at the page, and there's a bit more to it than I remembered. ^_^ The only essential reading is everything starting with "The Church of $patron". The rest of it, though informational and possibly useful, isn't as essential to your understanding of upcoming events.

Well, perhaps we're lucky and Tikigod can play from 1100 to 1330? We could make a little start on his prologue, which has been carefully simplified for rapid play.

The weekend after this one, my best friend is visiting from California; he's planning to propose to his long-time girlfriend on Valentine's Day, and I've been hand-picked to organize the festivities. So no Dragonhunt next weekend.

WS: Perhaps you'd have an odd hour here or there during the week to try wrapping up your prologue? Just a suggestion.

OK, people, so what's the score for this weekend? Are we playing, and if so, which campaign? PT set me up with an NPC from his campaign, so I should have something to do no matter which one we choose to play. So who's available for 1100 GMT on Saturday?
