This may have been done before, but here goes anyways:

Mine is probably an odd choice for a guy raised on action flicks. My favorite movie
is "City of Angles". It has an increadible soundtrack and the movie reaches out, grabs you by the heart, and won't let go....

mmm... Batman Forever.

yah... I said it.

City of Angles? or Angels? With Meg Ryan? Never saw it. Hmmmmm.

Ok, mine would be Austin Powers 3 or anything made by Pixar.

Back to the Future, the Trilogy.
I bought it in DVD some days ago and watched them all in a row, in one day.

The Crow. I just liked how he healed.
That was a good movie but the Martrix is near to unseating it.

The Fellowship of the Ring (closely followed by Two Towers, and sure to be followed by Return of the King)
Amadeus
anything by either of the 2 big animation studios, currently, Treasure Planet is my fav...

Boondock Saints is my favorite. It's a somewhat unheard of action movie that's really good.

Blade Runner was one of the first movies to be released letterboxed if I recall, that's a testimony to one of it's many facets of goodness, the cinematography, or whatever you'd call it =) You could grab any frame of Bladerunner, print it, and hang on yer wall framed. For the time it was some awesome sets and effects too.

One of the first movies I remember that painted the future somewhat realistically the way I was thinkin,, meaning stanky wet drippy apartments etc, that stuff will never go away. Something that bugs me about future films is the cleanliness and lack of pre 2203AD buildings, where'd they all go?

but what's not to like is my question? It's a bit dated now but the story's still good and it asks questions that are hard to answer for a lot of people, what's life worth? being the biggest.

As I go back over the movie in my head I think I understand why it might not appeal to someone who isn't old enough to have seen it in a theatre (spoiled brats =D), but I still love it!

This is always a killer, but here's my top few (in no particular order), listed because I would say yes if you asked if I fancied watching one of them now.

Despite the usual critical appraisals, I still reckon that watchability is what separates a great film from all the rest.

I wanted to post up my fav film before looking at anyone elses submissions, which I managed to do 'cept for seeing Resevoir Dogs on the post immediatly above mine while I was looking to click on the post reply button.
My personal favourite film of all time, without a shadow of a doubt is Blade Runner.
Now I'm off to see what everyone else has said. I think I noticed that there have been 20 odd replies to this in an hour!

Let's see: Avalon(the one by Mamoru Oshii but it's much more intelligent, imho, than the first Matrix episode), Pyscho( the b &w version by Alfred Hitchcock), the Exorcist, the Silence of the Lambs and Blade Runner.

There are a lot of other very good movies too but I can't recall their names.

Star Wars was not bad but a little cheesy. Also, Terminator series was pretty kewl too.

oooh... I see. Interesting.

I thought it was... errrmmm... a little boring.

My top movies...

1. T2 -- the reason why I am in computer graphics
2. The Exorcist: The Director's Cut -- Cult Classic!
3. Harry Potter and the Sorcer's Stone -- I just love it
4. My House in Umbria -- (Love Maggie Smith's voice! She is also in Harry Potter as one of the teachers too!)
5. Samilla's Sense of Snow -- (Good Story.)

It's very difficult to choose just one but I would probably have to say Blade Runner followed extremely closely by Twelve Monkeys. There are so many others that I love too.

Izzay, I would have to say that Blade Runner creates an atmosphere that I find irresistable. It is dark and rainy and filled with all sorts of cool tech overlayed on the future LA. The musical score is done by Vangelis and complements it perfectly for my tastes. I love the ambience it creates more than the diaglogue itself bgut I love that too. The director's cut is awesome because it includes the famous unicorn scene which brings home the fact that Deckard is a replicant too. The glowing eyes over Rachael's shoulder hinted at it in the original but Scott really thought it should have been included. I didn't have a problem with the original's ending with the outtakes from the Shining because I like a bit of incongruity as much as the next guy but I must say ending it as the elevator doors closed was, IMO, sublime morosity. I could go on about why Blade Runner was such a good movie but I think JKMabry and me probably just went further than anyone cared to know

Decades of good movies have passed and Lord of the Rings, a newbie, has been mentioned quite a few times... unbelievable.
I haven't seen any movie from this "series", I haven't read any book from this theme, I haven't bought any merchandise from this thing. This Lord of the Rings frisson sucks.
I just can't believe...
I would like to add The Name of the Rose to my all-time favorite.
