hello hello hello... quite some time ago i asked you gurus for help and everything worked wonderfully. except my schedule sucks and just now have i gotten a chance to work on a new update for my page.
anyways, the problem i am now encountering is... i have a frame, that has the value of scrolling="no" and i LIKE/WANT that setting, haha. but the problem is, the frame is 300x200 pixels or whatever, and i want to display text in that frame that requires more space.
if i set scrolling to yes, it screws up the design because it adds the side-bar to that specific frame, whether or not it's actually needed--plus if it is needed, it screws up my background when i scroll down (don't really want to go into detail).
i need to know if there's some way i can have a frame that doesn't scroll, but somehow use an applet or script or ANY solution that'd allow me to have extra text in that frame sometimes and somehow be able to scroll down...
does this make sense? if not, just say so and i'll post an example on the web when i get back from work, thanks a million!
cheers.mikey.milker

Yah, this can be done with DHTML layers (divs), but it's not exactly easy, requiring a bunch of javascript to make it work. I've used it in my Trekker pages and been almost satisfied, and bunches not, and also in the Kungshamn pages and been somewhat happier. I plan on redoing this script to work *really* like I like it, but no time just yet, it can be a bitch to do right. Some of the others here must have pointers to a relatively easy example of this kind of thing? Speak up now!

If I understood your problem correctly, this could help, IE only I'm afraid.
http://www.quadzilla.com/frames/frames_floating.htm
And tbis one may work in frames, but I've never tried it. http://javascript.internet.com/scrolls/up-down-vertical.html
hope this helps
[This message has been edited by r@m (edited 28-05-2000).]

http://www.greatbasin.net/~milker/crapster.jpg
doc, you're scaring me... but after seeing my image, you think that's what i'm talking about, could you point me towards some links?
and r@m, thanks for the links but that's not exactly what i'm looking for (especially if it'll only work in IE 3+)
thanks you guys!
cheers.mikey.milker

doc!
i just saw 'the story' section of kungshamn and that's pretty damn near what i want!
how your "up" and "down" text links automatically scroll with a mouseover... you could also do that with an image or two, right?
but how the layer of text and images scrolls over the background in a confined area, that's pure genius and exactly what i envisioned.
i'm scared though, i popped up the source code real quick and it gave me a headache. then again, i just worked for 10 hours and i'm going to bed now, so that might have something to do with it, haha.
so... now that you/everyone has an idea of what i've been rambling about, what advice is there and where the heck do i start? yikes!
at this rate i'm just gonna give up and make a text-only page
cheers.mikey.milker

DHTML scrolling is a tough thing to master. I've been working on it for a while, and I still haven't ever gotten it right on the first try. How good are you with JavaScript and CSS (style sheets)?
