I think that's what they're called. The little windows that pop up with their own toolbar and stuff. Any good sites about them anyone?

Chromless windows is an IE only hack. If you want something like this check out Bratta's "Window Script"

Sorry to be a bother, but could someone explain to me exactly how a chromeless window works. I can use those two pre-written scripts fine, but I really want to be able to understand what it's doing, can anyone explain that to me, and how I could write my own script to do it.

all it does is take advantage of IE's 'full screen' mode. It sends the browser full screen, which removes all the chrome, and then resizes it so you can see the chromeless edges.

It's a cheap hack, only useable for IE, and rather annoying IMO.

I'll second DL on that one - I have found that it can be distinctly tricky to close on some platform/browser combinations (without closing all the open browser windows anyway). It can also be confusing for the general user and I would advise against making widespread use of this - its like pop-up windows but with an extra poke in the eye. When used well it can be impressive but you could probably count those times on one hand.

darn!!!!! one learns a new thing everyday!

I always thought a chromeless window was a pop-up window which had all its buttons stripped out? duh@me

not being an IE user I probably have never seen a real chromeless window before! lol

If you want to still use IE, get a program like POW from www.analogx.com It will close a window based on the caption so you don't have to end the task which may close all windows. (Or get a browser like opera)

how would I make the background of my fullscreen window transparent? So that it looks like the content is all that's on the screen, not the stupid bgcolor.

so.... you want to make the webbrowser transparent?

that cannot be done.

the window is a normal ie window just with all the 'chrome' stripped away... I am pretty sure there is no way to make an IE window transparent... that would be really out there.

I got one thing to say:

Alt+F4
Alt+F4
Alt+F4
Alt+F4
Alt+F4

Closes what ever window has the current focus, so in windows make sure that's what is selected in your taskbar and hit: ALT+F4

No reason to end task the whole app.

I'm generally against them because they are such aberrations, however, I like what this guy has done with them:

.
You've got to click his logo to launch the chromeless bit.
