This was an assignment for my art history class. Just sharing; I already handed it in.

It's pretty slow in Mozilla but should work fine in IE.

Funky.
But the zoom function doesn't work too well cause the numbers don't resize.

The zoom function isn't really for resizing. It just changes the scale of the timeline. The text resizes when you zoom out a lot just so that it doesn't get all mixed up.
IE 6 users, use your mouse wheel to zoom.

The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.

Hmz,
I'm looking at it from an PII 233 mHz with 256Mb, and it runs quite neat. So thumbs up again .
If I might drop a suggestion, I think your script would be even cooler when it's possible to ride through time in a 3D-fasion, riding a groovy vehicle and stuff.

The speed doesn't depend on the CPU so much as how the browser handles the page. Each block of text, each date, and the background are all separate objects, and all of the ones on the screen at one time are constantly being updated. If the browser is smart enough to do some sort of offscreen buffering, it's very fast. Mozilla seems to move the background, then each piece of text individually, each time requiring a full screen refresh. not much that I can easily do about that.

Sorry Ini,
I didn't mean to criticise your criticism . "Thumbs up again" wasn't meant to imply you (nor someone else) had suggested something different. "again" just stands for "Look, yet another cool gadget from Slime". But that doesn't necessarily mean our "high noon"-date is off, of course .

Slime: That's a neat toy.
My only suggestions are about the interface.
1. a dashed border ( or a picture representing a border ) between the years would increase the legibilty
2. at the highest zoom ratio, it would be nice to see the months
3. it should be nice to set the height of the content area to ~75%
Last and very least, the saturated red is not my cup of tea but that's a matter of taste.
Anyway, it can make a great interface.
BTW, the way of navigating in the years reminds me Dasher. Dasher is a data entry graphical interface in which you navigate through some colored squares representing the characters. Visit the link for further informations.
Cheers,
Mathieu "POÏ" HENRI

Great work as usual Slime!
It was pretty slow on Mozilla (almost unusable), but in IE6.0 it works great

That's awesome man. Good job!
But I have one concern -- your slider ends just before 2010... Do you know something that we don't?
