I was wondering how one created the effect of a ripped piece of looseleaf paper..kinda like on one of Steve's old sigs... I don't even need it warped like his was... just a little ripped rectangle of looseleaf is what I'm going for

Not that dramatic...just like a fuzzy edges type thing...take a piece of looseleaf and rip it, try to be straight, notice how it's fuzzy

well, hmm... it is fuzzy. here is a basic way,
>use the lasso tool to make a mostly straight line with some [gasp] jaggies, no anti-aliasing, no feather. follow this around the area you can delete.
>quick mask.
>crystallize with 3, again with 6, then again with 3.
>get out of quick mask and delete the outside.
you may want to resize it, squeeze the jagged edge some.

ok, that was a Very simple edge. how can it be done better?

Woohoo - just about nailed it. I made a white rectangle on a separate layer. Added the blue and pink lines. Selected the rectangle, entered quick mask mode, applied the (uh, something like sprayed strokes? some filter having sprayed it its name that I don't use very often), set to fairly subtle effect; out of quick mask mode, select>inverse; delete.
Made a new document same size, filled with clouds filter, saved as PSD. Run Displace filter on paper file using cloud file as displace source. Airbrushed in some shadows.

Whee - torn paper. Oh yeah - I added some noise to the paper so it wasn't just flat white.

Have fun!

I may be overcomplicating matters, but how about ripping a piece of loose-leaf and scanning it...?

That wasn't delivered in a smart-ass manner, but if it read that way -- hey, extra points for me! <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/smile.gif">

That wouldn't really work, Wes. My scanner crashes my computer 78% of the time, and when my computer crashes I get pissed, and when I get pissed, WarMage can hear me. <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/mad.gif">... <img border=0 align=absmiddle src="http://www.ozones.com/forum/biggrin.gif">
