Preserved Topic: Tattooing??? (Page 1 of 1)

I have tried a few times without avail to get a tattoed effect...my process involves painting the displacement map, displacing the vector drawn black logo that was brought into photoshop, and weathering it a bit with layer modes, noise, and some blurring. Still i can't get it too like right. Does anyone know an alternate effect? It might just be too hard for me to paint the displacement map for a palm head on hand (not a very good pic, can someone point me in the way of a good hand pic from palm straight on?)....i'm just giving up too soon maybe after a few more tries...i do need a better hand pic though...

um... not totally sure what you mean, but you want a picture of the palm of a hand? i got a digital camera sitting right in front of me... and i still have both of my hands... hey! i even have 10 fingers...

Net : I've tried a few idea's for getting this to look right. So far the best results have been a series of blend modes, overlay, screen, overlay etc. Then some more layers to match the light in the photograph. Still I'm talking black and greys on skin, no colour.

(and yes I owe you mail..I'm swamped, but it's coming soon) I took this photo a long time back, for referencing while I'm doing freehand work, hopefully it might be a bit of help. Just brush my old junk out of it...hehe.

My god DG, what big thumb you have! On a similar note, I've done almost the same thing as you have, that's how I got my hand for the older pages of the "/whoami/" archives. Good practice with using the pen tool for clipping, too!

Thanks for the suggestions, i've fooled with it a while and found something that worked after playing with blending and blurring...thanks for the hand but i managed to take a good high res shot of my own so i guess i'll use that, you have ten fingers? that's weird...DG i had wondered where you'd gotton off to - no hurry on the wallpapers, just send 'em over whenever you want, actually i'm switching my site to another more permanent web server so it's down now anyway...i had to use tin snips to get all the crap off my wrist for my hand shot...now i feel naked...kinda...at least without my clothes on i do...
