well... this is how you do it, the basics atleast. it sould be easy, index it choosing the least amount of colors you can with it still looking "good". |

That is one way to do it. Another is in Photoshop 5.x youcan select Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S to Save for Web. Select GIF and go to the Matte setting there. Play around here, and you can find your correct setting. (Image Ready does the same thing) I usually matte out to what the background color will be. In The Asylum is a blend of both the light and dark background. |

the easiest way to do it is set your gif's background color to your page background color. this is the important part: set your color mode to indexed and after it asks to flatten it, make sure the checkbox for transparency is on. export it as a gif and it will give you an eye dropper to pick the color you want as transparent. |

I guess I am wierd....I do it different. I dont flatten it...but I delete the background later. I then go to File, Export, and then Gif98a or whatever it is. I click on the gray color box and enter the RGB value of what I want the transperant color to be.....Seems to work OK for me. |

if you use the method i described, you can choose more than one color as transparent :-) |

I save for web as GIF, transparent, no dither, 0% loss, 256 colors, and use a color a tad bit lighter than #240000 for my matte. |

Don't tell anyone but until this afternoon I did it by hand. Pencil + zoom. Now Ive got F1's nifty font pack, I'm using those fonts and just going in with the pencil to clean up the odd spacing n shtuff. too easy. =) |
