Hi guys! I know a few of you use PS for the same type thing that I do. So I just wanted to pick some brains here. Kind of off subject. I am a graphic designer. I work in an inhouse art department for a manufacturer. We print a lot. I mean A LOT! We currently lease a Ricoh AficioColor Color copier with a EFIColor Fiery RIP. I does about 6 8.5" x 11" color copies a minute. Our lease runs up in August and we're looking for something more cost-effective that can deliver a really accurate color proof (CMYK). I have seen printouts from the Tektronix Phaser 780 Laser printer and they're really nice, but no copy option there. We could end up with two machines-one for color proofing-and one for color copying. What do you guys use, or what have you seen in use? What has impressed you? BTW it has to be able to print 11"x17". Thanks a lot. Sorry so wordy. |

Eh, hopefully SOMEONE here can help u. Personally I don't even own a $50 B&W inkjet printer (I do have an ImageWriter II though). The beauty of web work is that you never have to spend a dime on printing, that means more money to spend on cool toys like pressure-sensitive tablets, and fancy digital cameras with swappable lenses. |

I'm only barely qualified to weigh in on this, because I am not a graphic designer and I haven't investigated this stuff real thoroughly; my sense is that you're going to find it tough to come up with one machine that will give top quality contract proofs AND satisfy your needs for fast, high volume copy/printing. Kodak Approval, Scitex Iris and Imation Matchprint are expensive but industry standard proofing devices. I don't know anything about the copy/printers. |
