I seem to have a big problem making straight diagonal lines. is there a secret to doing this?? Whenever i make them, they are curved and pixelated! is there any way of making straight diagonal lines? i know this seems like a stupid question but im sorta a newbie.

Thanks
Mike

Welcome to the Asylum Mike

Basically.. No... because a PS document is a raster image it is constructed using rows and columns of pixels. If you zoom in on a document to the pixel level, or grab a piece of paper and sketch yourslef a small grid.. you can immediately see how diagonal lines cant help but be 'jaggy'..

to overcome this somewhat you should make sure that you have 'antilaising' turned on when you draw/paint a diagonal line. What this does is too add small off colour pixels around your line that gives the impression of a smoother line. This is true for text also.

try the grid sketch and fill in squares and try and make a smooth diagonal line... demonstrates the problem quite well...

hope that helps

I prefer the alternative methods...

create a line in your head....MAKE IT APPEAR!

No jaggies! draw a vertical line. Then rotate head 45º.

*SIGH* JakeB: did you zoom in to that rotated line?... by any odd chance of my imagination?.. just wondering?

Check the settings for interpolation in preferences. Remember that discussion a few months ago?
