Preserved Topic: guru's texture tut (Page 1 of 1)

hi guys im struggling with this tutorial ive been trying for weeks. here is the link http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorials/photoshop/rust.html , im sure most people here already know about this place. i get stuck at the point where u creat a new channel, load up the selection then save it. i go to my rust blur selection i have saved, and i can never get it to blur right and look 3d after lighting. can anyone detect what im doing wrong here and give me a boost in the right direction or do i need to explain my problem better?

Maybe you are blurring while you still have your selection made. Hit command-d or ctrl-d and then blur your alpha channel. Does that fix it?

arg im still having problems with this, it tells me to make a new channel, i really cant see why to create a new channel with my limited understanding of whats going on. do they mean that the rust blur selection i made is the new channel? that sounds about right. (if your not on the tutorial u have no idea what im talking about) but when i do save the selection and go to it in my channels tab, the the back ground is white, the shape i was playing with is black, how do i switch that around?

Hi Gix,

I'm sorry if I've confused you....drop me a mail and I'll go through it with you if you're still stuck......

It's been a while since I wrote that tut, maybe it wouldn't hurt to go through it again myself, if it does seem a little confusing, I'll re-write it with better explanations of the different stages of creating the effect, maybe stretch it into another page.
Jeni, if you've read it through, let me know what you think.

Phil-Maybe show what the channel should look like once the selection has been saved. I was looking for Kai's Chops stuff, but Pixel Foundry appears to be down. It's a shame Gix. I'll keep trying for ya. Phil, I'll give that tute a more thorough look-through when I get a chance.

I read it through a couple of times, and I agree if you don't have a great deal of PS knowledge, it would be easier to follow if it was explained a little more thoroughly. I'll re-write it over the next couple of weeks.
