since i really don't use any 3d progs, i was wondering if any of you knows how to make some
cool wireframe pics...
in particular, i need a human head wireframe pic
something like that anyway...
anyone?

hmm i dont think you can really draw a wireframe of a head in photoshop if thats what your thinking...and i head isent the easyest thing to model... the wire frame part is easy, its just a texture... i guess you could dload a demo of *cough**snigger* poser... it has premade models you can use....

Poser 4 download. "There is limited functionality with libraries, creating movies, import/export, and saving, but you can still have a lot of fun!"

Sounds a bit sketchy if that will meet your needs, even temporarily.

Might try heading over to Caligari and trying TrueSpace 5. (Hey, O-Boi, they have a streaming demo of TS5 interface. Neato-bineato.) Then head on over to 3D Cafe : Body Parts and grab the head model.

Good luck.

After a stop at 3D Cafe and playing for 15 or so...

Took some cleaning up on the model. Various other blah blah blah.

The model isn't really that conducive for wireframe. It was made for animating. There are eyelids (upper/lower, left/right) built in, which I aced. And the eyes are seperate objects as well. So I took this as a chance to play with multiple passes.

Pass 1: Head wireframe by itself
Pass 2: Eyes wireframe by themselves
Pass 3: Head pure black and eye pure white <-- for Alpha channel

Slap it all together in PS. Nothing too fancy -- just some practice. You can tell the eyes are seperate objects because the meshes don't line up. And the polycount it way too high for my wireframe tastes. But, like I said, this head was made for animating.

Although many harcore 3D artists don't support Poser, it's still a pretty versatile program for it's price range. Granted, the end results aren't quite as good as a more expensive package but, that's to be expected. If you want an easy program to get your feet wet in, I'd highly recommend it. Here's a little pic I threw together in Poser after seeing this thread. Thanks for the inspiration.

Shard - warjournal - Nice work both of you! Really interesting and informative stuff there. I for one appreciate the work you did investigating the possibilities.

Thanks, Steve. Getting back into 3D has been a real eye-opener for me. I left the 3D scene around 10 years ago and things have changed quite a bit. My Max skills are almost up to speed. Mostly modeling and UVW mapping so far. Still have to get into IK and bones and all that.

Which brings me to Poser. Personally, I don't have use for it. But I must admit that Poser Pro looks pretty tasty. Maybe some day. For now, I'm more than happy building my skills from the ground up. Maybe then I will think about using another prog to help streamline what I already know.

I'm still a vertex by vertex kind of guy, but I'm (re)learning.

Jeez. So much more to say, but I don't want to stray too much farther right now. Time to digress.

Thanks for the kind words Steve. It means a lot, especially coming from someone as talented as you. Warjournal, I just upgraded to Poser ProPack myself. It's quit e bit more advanced than stock Poser 4. I've been extremely happy with it other then it's poor "Export to Flash" feature, which is mainly why I upgraded. All in all, it's a good package though and, for someone who justs wants to "dabble" in 3D, it'll save a bit of money as well.

Michael comes with a genital option and Victoria doesn't. What's up with that? Chauvinist basterds!
