Hello i've been trying to reproduce this little piece of face here but i cant, i wanted to know how would you do it? what color will you use as a base color?, will you use airbrush, paintbrush or the dodge and burn tools?. any tips will help.

Draw out your base shape with paths in a middle grey tone. Then go at it with dodge and burn set on very low exposure. Zoom in on both if you need to and just go at it. Zooming in is an easy way to get the feel for the transitions between shades of grey.

Try it out and see what you can do.

not a bad start - what you need to do now is focus on the details -

sharpen the highlights....go in with a smaller/sharper brush with a higher exposure

pay attention to the dents and scratches and wrinkles....

wrap that shadow into the dark background a bit more (like the original)

getting there....
