Please please please help me choose a book

These are the most spoken of books for PS 6,

* Inside Adobe Photoshop 6 - by Gary David Bouton
* The Photoshop 6 WOW! Book - by Jack Davis
* Photoshop 6 Down and Dirty Tricks - by Scott Kelby

They have the good and bad reviews on amazon, but it is hard to judge the reviews on one book only, especially if someone hasn't got either two or all of the titles. I mean...how can you say one is better without having tried out the other ones.

Please help....i'm almost bald from pulling my hair out, and I really like my hair...

Thanks in advance

Tell us what you need out of the book, and we could better suggest one especially for you.

well the WOW series was cool, not great for an overall approach but informative...down and dirty is a waste...inside is good overall but you'll only get out of it what you put into it, meaning don't expect to become good at photoshop from a book. i've got six or seven photoshop books, all pretty good but i've learned most from just trying it, trying to recreate, and asking people specific questions.

Hi all

I'm not that much of a newbie, even though i do not create the amazing life images that most can do...I primarily design for the internet....web-sites as such...so i'm think of getting a book that will allow me to create funky images at low file size...Teaching me the fundametals of PS6, and how to use the new features that have been added.

I have PS6 on my pc at home and it looks a heck of a lot more intimidating than usual (maybe i like my old favorites). I have enough cash for all three books, but I'd rather choose one or even two books, without getting into a rut...

I love tutorials so I'm thinking that would also be a plus in a book, most of my work day is used on looking for new ways and techniques and then finding shortcuts

Wakkos: I'm assuming you know that book is good as you have tried it?
Drac: uh...nope...hehehe

overall, i need to find out who has the books and help me decide on which of them are great...

Thanks a bunch everybody for such quick replies

if your looking simply for 'effects' for the web.. I would save your money and just use the web as a resource. There are a ton of websites out there , that are predominantly providing for free the same tutorials for web graphics that you will pay for by buying a book.

For in depth PS knowledge, finding info on the web is a little harder but possible.. but from your post above, if it is only for web graphics , seriously think about saving your pennies and use the web

I have the Inside PS book by Bouton (V5.0) and it is a nice book, but not worth the money imho... (saying that in hindsight is easier of course).. I recommend the 'web' as a resource first based on your statement. Its all here ya! just have to find it

good luck ~Vp~

Thanks all for the advice

I think I'll just go to a book shop and "read" up on it a little more.
Comparing prices from Amazon to Exclusive books, its quite apparent that the latter is a rip-off which is why i chose the internet as my new book resource.
My problem is I do not have the internet in the evenings at home, so I cannot practise like I want to....sigh...i'll have to just use my old method and print

Anyways all....thanks a bunch...you've saved me a great expense, and only money well spent would better my skills.

Thanks again...Have a fantabulous weekend
